POSTS STORIES REELS
Seeing as I've post about the books that I've made me I wanted to post about the books those influences made. Here they are. Mr. Jones, my debut novel. This is the original cover, it's since been redesigned. It's a coming-of-age story about a love of books, music and writing. It's a little rough looking back on it now but I still love. Next up is Montague's Carnival of Delights and Terror. I wrote this because I wanted to read a story about vampires and travelling carnival's. I'll always have a special place in my heart for it. Something Wicked, Something Dark is my second collection of short stories most of which are set in Ireland. I wanted to set more horror stories in my own 'back garden' after a life time of reading such fiction set in America. Price Manor: The House That Bleeds is a gothic haunted house story that came out of nowhere. I was asked to part of a group of authors that would create a interconnected world based around the same haunted house and my imagination ran away with itself. I wrote the whole thing over a summer. The Cult of Choiche continues the aim of setting more horror fiction in Ireland. It's written for readers that wish their YA fiction had more teeth! Writing it might be my favourite writing experience of my life. #bookstagram #books #booktok #booksbooksbooks #horror #horrorbooks #horrorcommunity #bookstagrammer #ilovebooks #readmorebooks by @jamie.stewart.33
Welcome to the family Price Manor: The House That Bleeds! The House That Bleeds the story focuses on the sudden appearance of Price Manor on the outskirts of a small farming community in Russia. Elected by the town officials Alexander Nicholai must enter the mysterious house in search for answers. What he finds is the opportunity for revenge on those same officials that have manipulated his life and the lives of those within the community for their own gains. Price Manor: The House That Bleeds is a mix of The Haunting of Hill House meets IT. Available on Amazon in ebook and paperback. #bookstagram #books #bookstagramuk #bookstagramhorror #horror #horrorbooktok #booktok #horrorbooks #horrorbookstagram #horrorbook #pricemanor #vintagehorrorbooks #booksbooksbooks #ilovebooks #bookstagrammer #horrorbookslove #horrorbookclub #horrorbooksarethebest by @jamie.stewart.33
Horror season over, not in my house!!! Check out my stories on Amazon. If you're looking for vampires why not visit Montague's Carnival of Delights and Terror. If witches and zombies are your thing then give The Cult of Choiche a try. Or if you prefer ghostly gothic mansion and time travel check out Price Manor: The House That Bleeds. And if shorter fiction is your thing why give I Hear The Clattering of the Keys or Something Wicked, Something Dark a chance. #bookstagram #booktok #reading #horrorbooks #bookcommunity by @jamie.stewart.33
Here's what I actually read in October! I was a little too ambitious with my original stack which featured two other books. I blame Black House for this, it took me half the month to get through it. My least favourite read of the month. My favourite was The Taking by Koontz. Maybe I'm not built for TBR stacks. I'm very much a mood reader and I added the Koontz book because of this. Going forward I'll keep vague desired stack and see which ones I actually read when the time comes. Also I feel that locking in with this new novel has taken some of my reading energy away. I still enjoyed reading but I was only managing 50 pages a night, which is small for me. I still enjoyed it though, just feel my brains been zapped with working on the story in a good way, it's the best thing I've written so far. I can't wait to share it with you all. #bookstagram #readingstack #tbr #booktok #bookstagrammer by @jamie.stewart.33
I blame and thank @spencer.hamilton.books and @stephengrahamjones for my next choice of book. Not a bad one to start on Halloween ☺️. #halloween #stephengrahamjones #reading #horror #bookstagram by @jamie.stewart.33
This was the biggest surprise read of my month. The Taking by Dean Koontz was not in my planned TBR, however, I came across a copy of it and couldn't resist. You see I have a history with this book, for one it's the firsr Koontz I've ever tried. Second I failed to get through it and on this read I can understand why. I was a teenager at the time and the narrative with this story frequently reflects on issues such as faith, the meaning of life, where does humanity sit within the universe, our effect on the planet. It was a little dense for a reader who wanted blood and guts. This time, however, it's exactly what I wanted. The story here focuses on married couple Molly and Neill. Molly is unable to sleep one autumn night, becoming a witness to a violent downpour unlike any she's ever seen. For one the rain has colour, it seems to smell and it gives her the distinct impression something is wrong. What follows is a planet encompassing event, an alien invasion that feels like The Last of Us owes some money to this book. I really enjoyed this one. It reminded me of the new Resident Evil movie, in that it starts with a small incident that leads to another and another each getting bigger, more complicated and dangerous each time. An example is how after Molly wakes Neill they journey to town only to find a car abandoned in the rain. Later they find another only this time there's signs of a struggle. This climax's when they visit their neighbours house only to find his body, his head missing, moments later that body reminates. It sounds silly but I learned a lot from reading this one about how powerful stories can be by keeping things simple and building from there. I loved the way each section of this story revealed a little bit more each time as to what was going on while never fully giving everything away until the end. I highly recommend giving it ago as I immediately brought five more of Koontz's books. #bookstagram #booktok #deankoontz #horror #reading by @jamie.stewart.33
Happy Birthday to The Cult of Choiche!! My Irish zombie novel is two years old, it remains one my favourite pieces of writing I've ever written. #bookstagram #booktok #zombie #horror #reading by @jamie.stewart.33
New #bookmail arrived! I'm so excited to dive into these. I think I'm going to do The Gathering next month and save The Drift for December as I love a spooky winter read in winter. What's your TBR plans for November? #bookstagram #booktok #cjtudor #reading by @jamie.stewart.33
There's a killer on the loose in Virginia! By a delightful accident I discovered the work of Patricia Cornwell this summer through her book Cruel and Unusual. Ever since then I've wanted to read more. I was a bit anxious to dive into this one, what if my summer experience was a one off? Turns out I need not have worried. All That Remains focuses on the investigation around a serial killer that targets couples. The killings have lasted years and investigators are stumped due to the lack of connection between victims and how little evidence is left at each scene. All they know is couples are going missing only for their bodies to be found months later too far decomposed for much evidence to be found. The lack of solution in this case has lead medical examiner Kay Scarpetta to come under scrutiny, practically as one of the latest victims is the daughter of a high profile politician. What I liked about this book is that the crime element is so dark that it feels like a horror novel with an investigative bent. Even the way Cornwell sets scenes and writers atmosphere is very powerful, filling the reader with dread. I also liked the political kind of ramifications with the investigation, this is my second of Cornwell's books and I wonder if they all have that element. Has anyone read anymore? If so do you know if I can expect more of this going forward. I know I will be reading more of these. They're fun, engaging reads that you can breeze leisurely. What's not to like. #bookstagram #booktok #patriciacornwell #reading #readingcommunity by @jamie.stewart.33
Good morning everyone. I haven't done an update in awhile and I know I've got a few new followers so hi. My name is Jamie Stewart, I am a Irish author currently living in the Highlands of Scotland. I have six books published most notably Montague's Carnival of Delights and Terror and The Cult of Choiche. And yes I'm currently out walking my toddler. Anyway, let's get to the update. This year I've been querying a psychological thriller called The Gulf. It's a sexy, boiler room of a novel inspired by the thrillers of Alfred Hitchcock and David Fincher. Following a family of four, the Martins, as they become trapped in a remote lighthouse by a hurricane of the coast of Florida. The lighthouse owner is a friend, a former film director turned recluse after the murder of his wife. Only Arthur Hamilton harbours dark, violent secrets, secrets that involve each of the Martins. As hurricane rolls in, cutting them off, those secrets are about to be unleashed. While querying this I've been writing a psychological horror novel called The Butcher of Calico Creek that's like a Hallmark film where everything goes wrong. Here's its blurb: "Twenty-three years ago David Casey stood trial for the murder of his best friend. He was found not guilty, but the residents of Calico Creek know different. They know he did it. Now Casey's returned only to become embroiled in a new murder investigation where the number one suspect is once again himself." If you see my stories it's this book I'm currently editing for beta readers. My deadline is the 19th of November for them and I'm on track to hit it. I've less than half left to inspect and edit. After that I can't decided whether to write the first draft of a new book or edit the second draft of another 🤷‍♂️. Reading wise I seem to be back into horror mode, though I jump between horror, fantasy and crime thrillers. I'll continue to review and promote them on here. If you see one you know or don't feel free to comment. I love talking fiction. #bookstagram #booktok #writing #reading by @jamie.stewart.33
It's #facefriday time, how's everyone doing this week? Seeking a palette cleanser from Black House I dived into The Silent Scream by Diane Hoh. This is a Point Horror book, a series of horror books released in the 90s for teenagers which I sadly missed growing up. I only discovered these in recent years and a friend recommended this one to me. With an opening paragraph like this I'm glad she did. The Silent Scream focuses on a apartment building called Nightingale Hall renamed Nightmare Hall by students of Salem University following the apparent suicide of one of its residents. Now a new group of students have arrived only to discover things aren't what they seem. Jess discovers her bedroom was not only previously used by dead girl but it's where she died. It's also permanently cold and that's not the only strange thing within the house. Doors closed on there own. Mirrors shatter and lights fuse. Also things are going missing in each persons room. Can Jess uncover the reason behind these occurances? Is there something else behind the previous roommates death? This was a fun story that breezed by within two sittings. I found myself theorising about everyone in this book, trying to decipher who the killer was and I got it wrong 😂. I recommend this one if you want something short that can be read in one sitting. It's got a killer ending and some good twists. Plus, who doesn't love an opener like that. I still don't feel ready to tackle King's latest one so I think I'm going to try something else first. #pointhorror #reading #booktok #bookstagram by @jamie.stewart.33
Another week, another friendly reminder that my books are all available for the lowest price I can make them on Amazon. They're perfect for the spooky season and they make great gifts. #bookstagram #booktok #horrorbooks #halloween #reading by @jamie.stewart.33
