*ARC review* Thankyou so much to the author M J Badal for my free ARC copy♥️ 4.5⭐️ Perfect for lovers of Hunger games, The last air bender, Daggermouth, Wednesday, Shatter me, One dark window. Criticisms - NONE NONE NONE What i LOVED - EVERYTHING!! So this book, i devoured it. Love the Djinn in the magic system, I love that the author made it ambiguous so EVERYONE can connect and feel part of the story, whilst also having cultural eastereggs! Genius! I wanted to go into this hating Royen, but that lad is honourable af. I love the friendship that developed with the ascendants, it has a low key relatability to the dollar princess TV show the buckeneers, but also a bit like the the crystal maze UK game show, and a bit like the dauntless in Divergent. Aeric, you POS! 😭 GOD he was written well because I HATED him lmao!! And dont get me started on that damn council! What absolute cretins 😪 I really need to see what else happens nrxt in this universe!! Oh my lord, the hesrt! I have a new romance-fystopian obsession 😍 #bookreview #bookstragram #dystopianbook #hungergames by @janireads_theythem
*FREE SAMPLE review* Thankyou so much to harper collins uk tiktokshop for my copy! ⭐️ Perfect for lovers of Bridgerton, Oliver Twist, Buffy the vampire slayer, A tempest of Tea, and Bury our bones in the midnight soil Criticisms - 1. There are a few culturally insensitive parts - e.g "my uncontrollable curls", the fortune teller/mediums descriptions, using sage to cleanse not only is it a plant in danger, its a closed native american practise that brings in energy lol. 2. Both Effy, and the Liam contradict themselves a few times, but nothing major, it didn't take away from the entertainment. What i LOVED - Effy is typically Bridgerton, Liam is typically Oliver Twist, and together they are Buffy. I had no idea I needed this combination LOL! I used the book, and audio, and the audio cast was well selected, i adored Liams accent, its either an Irish voice actor, or a well performing non english voice actor, either way it is a show of respect to Ireland, we must be equal in showing respect to communities and groups. I absolutely loved Liam, and I think hes exactly what the Effy needed! IM SO SAD about the Effy's brother, after everything her father was going to do to her, his loss was a massive blow, then her MOTHERRR😭😭 And then!! Her father did something so much worse, what an extreme bastard. The story is really good, I had alot of fun listening & reading, it was perfect for spooky season! And I would be happy if there was a dramatisation of the book, I will be keeping this book on display because I liked the story so much. #Bookstagram #vampirebooks #vampirebook #vampirestory #vampirestories by @janireads_theythem
*ARC review* Thankyou so much to the author @hannahlynnwrites for my E and Physical ARC! Words can not express how honoured I am to receive both copies! My review = 4⭐️ Perfect for lovers of 🏺Greek mythology, Xena Warrior princess, Marvel, Hercules, the Odyssey, ⚓️ How we were introduced : Though I do feel it was a slow start, it wasnt for long, and it was still filled with entertainment, and I would suggest people stick with it, because it becomes explosive!!! The audacity, the grief, the action, the love, the relatability for women in 2026 in regards to mens attitudes and Ego, chefs Kiss! Criticisms - 1. I dont really have any, the tone of the story, the complicated and morally grey characters, the atmosphere of the story, its all very well written. It felt very well researched too. I have whiplash from the way the 2nd Queen of Themiscyra changed towards her ex brother in law, and I very much hate him, but hes also a mix of good and bad. To me he comes off as a person with great capabilities for harm, someone who can use, and has used. his power as a man to cause great pain, but In the most, tries not to, and tries to be graceful and respectful, though he is a product of his gender, and when it comes to it, chooses to use that with no reproach, i even wonder if the black sails were done purposefully to become King. What i LOVED - The ability to bring me to anger, tears, more anger, more tears, and how it helps me to process inner rage at the trauma i have to carry, though im not a woman, that is how the world has and still does see me. I carry that weight, because it was put on me. I've been in this very situation, in modern terms, and this is helping, its a fantasy retelling, and I have downloaded the entire series for this reason. A Very good job. TRIGGER WARNINGS : • Coercion into marriage and sex • Some mild rape references, and actual rape in a scene, but not violently graphic in description, a character stops it. • War violence • Grief and loss • Explicit sexual scenes and themes. #greekretellings #theOdyssey #Troy #xenawarriorprincess #bookstagram by @janireads_theythem
