You find some pretty cool things when you do a long weekend clean up.

This is the INSPIRATION for the incredible true story of a caper that makes, we humbly think, for great big screen viewing!

I’m biased, but I promise you’ll love them too.

What is she thinking?🤔

Probably - “Why didn’t I appreciate my eyebrows when I had them?” 😜

The Holiday Romance Mentorship contest win with @roadmapwriters has truly been one of the best experiences in my screenwriting journey so far.

It was a blessing working with Dave Hickey from Nicely Entertainment.

I learned:

✍ I can write a script from scratch in three weeks and it’s pretty good 😉

💻 I’m adept at taking a production note that centers around budget issues while still maintaining the essence of my character’s journey

✒️ I can edit a script on my unionized lunch like a cocaine-fueled nutter sans cocaine

😯 There’s a production tab in Final Draft that I’ve never used before! Hello!!!

🔎 I thought I was good at picking up typos but Dave is a typo ninja!

💁‍♀️ Creating transition scenes to allow for production set ups is a thing

🧘‍♀️ I can balance my personal life while pouring my heart into a project and not losing my mind (mostly)

🎄 I get to wear Christmas attire all summer long while working on a script and can call it “method writing” 😊

✨ Manifestation works! I envisioned my first experience with a producer to be with someone supportive and kind and Dave exceeded those expectations

I’m so grateful to Joey Tuccio and the entire team at Roadmap Writers (thanks Tiffany and Alex!) for their support throughout this process.

I was beyond happy to work with Dave as his mentee. He was thoughtful, encouraging and patient with me throughout these last few months making my first experience in “da biz” more than pleasant – it was truly inspiring! 💫

Call it a three-peat or a hat trick - either way, call us super happy!

Thank you @networkisa judges for the nod to three of our projects.

THE JUDAS APOCALYPSE - Emerging Screenplay Action & Adventure Quarterfinals!

MERRY KARISHMAS - Emerging Screenplay Family & Holiday Competition Quarterfinals!

(MOSTLY) HAPPILY EVER AFTER - Emerging Screenplay Family & Holiday Competition Quarterfinals!

And huge thanks to my family for putting up with Christmas music while I edited our holiday scripts in the middle of February🤣

Happy, grateful screenwriters over here!!! 🎉

I used to love loot bags at birthday parties. The candy, the toxic plastic toys (we didn’t know in the 70s 😉) and the excitement of getting a keepsake from your friend’s party.

When I had a birthday party in Grade 5, I wanted these necklaces put in my loot bags. I thought they were one of the prettiest things my parents sold in our Indian handicraft store.

Made of sealing wax, these glittery (and a touch heavy) necklaces, were stuffed into the loot bags.

To my surprise, they weren’t well received 😟

One girl told me they were “stupid” and another said they were “gross.”

The worst part of that party wasn’t the rejection of what I took pride in, it was the fact that for the first time, I saw my culture through someone else’s eyes.

And I let that influence my perception of it 😔

Now, when I look at this necklace, one of the last things I still have from my parent’s store that I absolutely treasure, I think of that little brown girl and her loot bags.

I’d do anything to protect her ❤️

For now, I share this story in the hope it helps any other baby brownies to embrace what makes them different and celebrate shiny special things that they think are beautiful even if other people don’t 🥰

Back in “sex school” (that’s what I called training for selling adult toys), we were asked to create a “Goal Poster” to help us visualize what we wanted to get out of our new careers.

This was back in 2001 when “vision boards” were becoming a thing. I’d never made one before so on the last day of training, I drew these images out.

Goal 1: An amazing man to share my toys with.

Here’s what’s interesting about this image. I was in my first long term relationship at the time. If you want to get into the psychology of this, clearly on some level, I knew it wasn’t him. Ahem… our TV pilot is based on this premise 😉

Goal 2: A new computer.

I bought it a few months after I started selling toys! Little did I know I would end up writing my novel on it.

Goal 3: A full day at the spa.

Okay, this didn’t happen. Working two jobs made it almost impossible to find the time to pamper myself. What I learned from that is that it wasn’t about the cost of a day at the spa, but more about prioritizing self care. I’m much better at that now 🥰

Goal 4: Awesome streaks in my hair. Visible ones!

I went to a salon conference (I was trying to get bookings for toy parties) and met someone who gave me pink hair streaks that they stitched onto my roots. They looked great as long as my hair was straight. As soon as I went back to my natural curls, I looked like I had sticks of pink spaghetti on my head.

I achieved my goals!

One way or another 😇
