2026 TCS Toronto

If I could some up this marathon in one word, it would definitely be: bittersweet.

This race was a year-in-the-making after multiple failed attempts on a PB in the marathon. I decided this spring to focus on the half marathon in preparation for this marathon. I felt the fittest that I had ever been and experienced no setbacks during the training block. I knew I was setup for a breakthrough, especially with ideal weather conditions.

The first few kilometres were challenging with the mass amounts of runners, but got to settle into pace upon hitting Bathurst. The plan was to stick around the 3:00 group & even got overtaken by the 1:30 half group but didn’t panic with how early the race was. Around this time I was running in a group with @joshuahalili_ & @bataneto & started feeling GI distress. Normally I wouldn’t have this issue, but I was forced to use the porta-potty. To make matters worse, the kit I wore required time to remove, due to being a one-piece. Overall lost over a minute of elapsed time, but no excuses here.

Once again, one of my favourite cheer stations to run through is @parkdaleroadrunners around 18k. Still felt good, however realized that @bataneto wasn’t behind me anymore. Every year, the split with the HM always gets to me mentally. Towards the Bayview extension, I realized that I wasn’t too far behind the 3:00 group but knew that I would have to run faster to catch up.

Around 30k I started to feel my right calf wanting to seize up. Fun fact: it actually did back in Ottawa 2025. Knowing this, it required me to adjust my gait, because I knew that if my calf seized, then it would drastically affect my race. I decided to re-adjust my pacing to 10-15s slower to just prevent a cramp from happening but I was still feeling aerobically strong. After mustering up 5k worth of 4:30s, I knew that my goal had slipped away for me. Nonetheless, we still finished strong and ended up with no cramps.

To the more interesting notes. This weekend will always hold a special place in my heart. My first ever m by @jasonoruns

2026 HYROX Toronto Relay write-up

About a month ago, I was asked if I wanted to join a Hyrox relay team & promptly said yes without hesitation, driven by curiosity and interest. I thought performing 2/8 stations (BBJ & lunges) wouldn’t be so taxxing on the body, yet it was sneakily challenging with the unfamiliarity and technicality of each station.

Pre-race: Vibes were high (similiar to Bandit Grand Prix), got to look around each station and saw many friends either cheering or participating in their own races. Normally at any race event, my HR data would show 100-120 BPM but it was surprisingly low. My team enters the starting area, I tell myself “here we go”.

Run 1 & BBJ: Patiently waited as my 1st run was #4 overall and thats when it started to feel real. As my teammate finished and tagged me, I immediately went out hot out the gate (like any race), completed three laps & lapped a 2:49??, once I entered the ROX zone. Honestly, don’t believe I ran that fast, but I for sure poorly paced it. Went over to the BBJ station, started, & immediately was handed a warning/penalty. I was told that I was taking small steps in-between jumps or when I was bringing them towards my hands, but I was definitely feeling it after 25 or so metres. Going back the last 40m felt like a km , with many breaks & thankful that was over. I couldn’t feel my arms as I ran back to tag my partner in.

Run 2 & lunges: After the BBJ station, I surely decided to pace myself for the run just so I didn’t overcook myself for the lunges. Still split a sub 4’, although it was probably closer to a 4:40/k. Once I reached the lunges station, I felt waaay better than I did previously & got to take it all in with those who were cheering just ahead. Shortly after, went towards the wall balls to hype up Raymond & finished.

Huge thanks to @mikwerdna for this opportunity to experience what competing in Hyrox is like. Would I ever decide to do doubles or a solo in the future? who knows, but that was something that I’ll never forget. ALSO, huge congrats to those competing, y’all are different fr.

Week 6 of @towaterfront42k marathon training!

Currently, I’m building towards a sub 3:00 marathon attempt and will maintain 110-120k per week throughout the block.

To be able to run this amount of mileage and reach my goal, I’ve been dialling in on nutrition. I have been primarily using @xactnutrition gels for any run longer than 75 minutes. They have 3 different gels (Strawberry, Apricot) & Blackberry, which comes caffeinated.
