A mission to save lives, one beacon at a time.

We are announcing the discontinuation of our free PLB program. We will no longer be providing free PLBs. We will not be able to send a free PLB to those already accepted onto our waitlist and those individuals have been notified by email. Notification emails have also been sent to our recurring Paypal donors, in the event they want to cancel or readjust their giving in light of our reduced mission.
It just so happens that this month is the nonprofit's 5 year anniversary. Over the past 5 years, we are grateful to have had donors that cared so much about offshore worker safety that they gave of their hard earned money that allowed us to provide approximately 440 free life-saving PLBs to verified offshore workers across multiple U.S. industries. We are thankful to ACR Artex for providing a discount to us and often notified us of overstock items that also allowed us to buy more than we would have otherwise. Over these same 5 years though, our donations have decreased significantly as the demand increased, creating a multi-year waitlist, AND unfortunately the offshore worker verification process expected of a Federally designated 501c3 charity nonprofit(which we are) has become too complex and cumbersome to continue the program.
The Board of Directors has voted to focus our very limited people and financial resources to educating and encouraging offshore companies in the U.S. directly, those who still don't voluntarily provide PLBs to their employees. We would like to encourage you to ask your current employer if and when they'll start providing PLBs. We also want to celebrate when a U.S. offshore company does choose to issue PLBs to their workers sent out to sea. IF YOUR COMPANY, OR YOU KNOW OF A U.S. COMPANY, THAT IS PROVIDING THEIR OFFSHORE EMPLOYEES PLBs AS PART OF THEIR STANDARD SAFETY EQUIPMENT, WE WANT TO KNOW! Fugro is a great example and we're hearing Chevron is doing the same. We then want to encourage all of you who do work offshore to apply to those companies that prioritize your safety.
In memory of our loved one, Jason Krell, who we lost along with 12 other crewmen due to the Seacor Power disaster on April 13 2021, please stay safe out there. by @jasonsbeacon

$In addition to saving lives by promoting the use of PLBs and taking donations to then buy PLBs for qualified U.S. offshore workers, our mission includes sharing the latest evidence based grief recovery with families of deceased and missing loved ones. That's why we have a Grief Recovery Specialist on our Advisory Board, Rhonda Frachiseur. Rhonda and her knowledge of the Grief Recovery Method helped us immensely, in the aftermath of the Seacor Power disaster, to see through so many myths and falsehoods out in society about grief and the process of grief and she continues to give us a level set on whatever we're still going through. It just so happens that Rhonda has suffered the tragic death of one of her sons and has also experienced a family member who went missing in the Gulf as well. Take time to read her latest blog posts, share it, and know that that there is hope for healing and you are not alone. https://rhondafrachiseur.com/f/when-the-waves-take-them-grieving-without-a-resting-place by @jasonsbeacon$

We couldn't be happier than getting this picture from Bubba wearing his new PLB on the job. His life and safety matters to us and our donors! We pray he never has to use this life-saving device but we are so happy he has it just in case.
We would like to encourage each and every offshore company in the United States to start providing these critical devices to all their employees they send out to sea for work. Making PLBs a part of their standard PPE is completely doable, no excuses, just ask Fugro! #safetyfirst by @jasonsbeacon

What a great picture of Bobby putting #safetyfirst by wearing a PLB on the job offshore. Thank you Bobby for sending this encouraging picture of you with the PLB you received from Jason's Beacon. 💙 We pray you never have to use it but so happy you have one out there in that vast wilderness of ocean.
While our waitlist is a long one, requiring recipients to wait quite awhile, if it wasn't for our dedicated donors we wouldn't be able to gift any PLBs at all. Because of them, someday they may very well be responsible for saving a life. I know seeing this picture really encourages them! by @jasonsbeacon

We want to thank Chris Stokes for sending us this picture of himself at work wearing his PLB. #safetyfirst It greatly encourages us when we get these showing recipients protecting themselves on the job with their PLB.
With the anniversary of the Seacor Power disaster around the corner, remember that none of those crewmen expected to be capsized that day. Be prepared for the unexpected every day on your offshore job and wear a PLB on your person. by @jasonsbeacon

To all of our Supporters!
Those who have donated so generously.
Those who are signed up to auto-donate every month (what a blessing!).
Those who created a Facebook Fundraiser, even if no one donated to it, it's the thought that counts.
Those who actually did donate to someone's Facebook Fundraiser.
Those who have and continue to tells others about our mission.
Those who have committed to change safety in the offshore industry so that PLBs become a standard asset given to everyone going out to sea for work (you know who you are, @fugro , IMCA International Marine Contractors Association, @acrartex, Kevin Barron).
And those who volunteer on our Board of Directors.
We could not have distributed 323 free PLBs, to date, to U.S. offshore workers without you!
(we still do have 230 more waiting on our list, though, and it grows every week) by @jasonsbeacon

YOU'LL WANT TO KNOW this Thanksgiving about two companies influencing the overall offshore industry to adopt PLBs as standard safety devices! They are committed to creating change because it saves lives, is the right thing to do, and they have nothing to gain from it other than #safetyfirst, so we strongly encourage our followers to SEND THEM EMAILS OR TAG THEM IN POSTS with thanks and encouragement for prioritizing your life and your loved ones lives. It won't be easy, but their success in doing this can be a game changer and save many lives in the future! You can find sample messages in the comments, if you would like to copy and paste.

IMCA-International Marine Contractors Association, lead by their CEO Iain Grainger, has been advocating all year for PLBs as standard safety devices for all those sent out to sea for work. https://www.rivieramm.com/news-content-hub/plbs-a-simple-device-that-can-save-lives-at-sea-82084 Next week, IMCA will be holding their huge annual Global Summit and consistently promoting this during the conference. They have also invited me to join them as a special guest. This is huge, Ya'll! Their email address is communications@imca-int.com to send them encouragement.

Fugro is the company that influenced IMCA! https://www.fugro.com/contact/locations/united-states#other-offices Fugro successfully implemented PLBs for all their workers going out to sea in 2022. As the employer of two of the #seacorpower disasters victims, Jason and Quinon, they continue to commit their resources to attend industry meetings and conferences in the U.S., and now the world at IMCA's Global conference, encouraging others to also adopt PLBs, promoting the NTSB's recommendations, presenting their personal experience with the Seacor Power disaster, and recognizing our little nonprofit.

I also want to take this day to share my gratitude for with all the individuals who continue to promote our cause and donate so we can continue our mission. Without you, we don't exist! Love and thanks to you all. ~ Debbie, Jason's Beacon President by @jasonsbeacon

We appreciate Nicholas letting us know he received the PLB from us and sending a picture with it at work!! If you have received a PLB from Jason's Beacon and not sent us a picture yet of you wearing it on the job, please do so via Facebook or email. We could really use the encouragement and it's important to our donors too.

Processed, shipped and on the way! by @jasonsbeacon

Thanks to Seth for sending us this GREAT photo of him wearing his ACR PLB on the job, provided to him by Jason's Beacon. Seth was on our waitlist a long time, as it has grown quite a bit over the past two years, and we appreciate his sincere email to us when he said "Thank yall so much. I carry it with me and the memory of all that have been lost due to not having vital safety equipment. Keep up the good work. Again my family and I cannot thank you enough."
If you have received a PLB from us and have not sent us a photo of you on the job with it, please do so as it strongly encourages us and our dedicated donors to keep going.

Thank you, Lee, for sending us this picture of you at work with your ACR PLB sent to you by Jason's Beacon! We are so glad you have it, but pray you never have to use it. #safetyfirst #offshorejob #PLB
If others reading this have received a PLB from us and haven't sent a picture yet of you wearing it at work on the job, please do! It gives us so much encouragement to keep at it, as well as encouraging our donors to keep supporting our mission to save lives one beacon at a time. by @jasonsbeacon
