From Section 8 to DMD 🦷 • • I’d be lying if I said this wasn’t the hardest 4 years of my life. Imagine getting accepted to dental school 1 week before classes started and packing your life in a 2008 Lexus to drive 1000 miles from ATL to Boston to chase your ultimate dream of becoming a doctor. Imagine being 1000 miles away from your family, having your car stolen, facing imposter’s syndrome & seasonal depression, and experiencing negligence & profiling from law enforcement while still leading your class as the President all 4 years AND still exceeding your clinical requirements to finish dental school 3 months early. When we pray to God he says yes, no, or wait. When he says yes he’s answering our prayers, when he says no it’s for our protection, & when he says wait it’s bc what we become in our transition is our gift to God. & what he gives us after transition is his gift to us. I’ve wanted to be a doctor since I was a kid. This DMD is for every young black kid who dreamt of turning nothing into something, and having the courage to challenge yourself to turn that something into everything our ancestors fought for us to have. You can do it. If you knew what it took to get here, then you’d know this wasn’t luck, but it was destined. Thank you to all the friends, classmates, & family who’ve poured into this journey & believed in me. Thank you Boston for a crazy, yet productive 4 years. Thank you Tufts for being the cocoon that transformed me into a competent clinician & your favorite dentist. Signing out, Jaylon Antón Johnson, DMD, MS, RDH D26 Class Pres • • • #fyp #dentist #dentalstudent #dentalschool #explore by @jaynoz_

Anything is possible when I’m the example. To be transparent…I doubted myself so many times during this journey but God converted my doubt into clarity. As a first generation college graduate, the pressure of succeeding and being a role model for my siblings was often overwhelming. Growing up in Section 8 neighborhoods, the visions we often dreamt about seemed unattainable. If you knew what it took to get here then you’d understand this wasn’t by luck, it was destined. This next chapter of my life is personal. I smiled through adversity so much I guess it was destined for me to pursue dentistry. It all worked out in the end. The underdogs always prevail! #DrJ 🦷 by @jaynoz_
“I don’t trust fluoride in my toothpaste, but I’ll drink water from a plastic bottle, eat ultra-processed food, and take supplements I saw on TikTok.” The selective outrage is WILD. 😂😭😭 You don’t have to agree with everything in dentistry, but if you’re going to question fluoride, at least apply that same energy to everything else you put in your body. Fluoride isn’t the enemy. Misinformation is. & there are thousands of research articles proving it’s effectiveness in remineralizing your teeth! #dentist #dentistry #fluoride #conspiracytheory #doctor by @jaynoz_
One man’s racism is another man’s opportunity to secure a bag… or however the saying goes 🤷🏾‍♂️ #dentist #dentistry #chicago #goodriddance #branding by @jaynoz_
I’d love to make this happen for the CULTURE! Maybe we could do it at Morehouse @morehouse1867 👀 So many people don’t have access to proper dental care, and I feel like it’s my duty to use this platform for good. What do yall think?! #fyp #dentist #dentistry #atlanta #food by @jaynoz_

I worked hard to become the first dentist in my family, and I’ll never let someone downplay my education based on their own prejudices. As you see in this speech, I’ve always been one to speak for those who may not have the courage to. I take this role as a provider seriously, & I pray my future patients know how much equality and fairness means to me in a world that doesn’t offer the same treatment for all. - Dr. J #fyp #dentist #dentistry #doctor #blackexcellence by @jaynoz_
In my future dental practice, my dental staff and patients will ALWAYS know they are protected. Ion play those type of games!! #dentist #dentistry #blackexcellence #doctor by @jaynoz_
