🌱 LET’S CONNECT | CARRY YOUR TREE MARATHON 2026 🌍

I am delighted to connect with fellow environmental professionals, climate advocates, young leaders, and sustainability enthusiasts at the Carry Your Tree Marathon, organised by Uni Champions.

As an Environmental Professional passionate about environmental conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development, I believe that meaningful environmental action begins with collective responsibility, collaboration, and community engagement.

Tree planting is more than an environmental activity; it is an investment in a greener future, healthier ecosystems, and more resilient communities. By bringing people together around a shared environmental purpose, we can transform awareness into action and strengthen our commitment to sustainability.

🌍SCIENCE, INNOVATION & ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY: A VISIT TO APOPO, SUA MOROGORO

My visit to APOPO at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA), Morogoro, offered an opportunity to appreciate how scientific research, innovation and human–animal collaboration can contribute to addressing complex societal challenges.

As an Environmental Management professional, I recognise the importance of connecting environmental sustainability with public health, biodiversity conservation and innovative approaches to sustainable development.

APOPO’s work demonstrates how trained African giant pouched rats, known asHeroRATs, can support life-saving initiatives through tuberculosis detection, landmine detection and emerging wildlife conservation applications. These innovations highlight the value of investing in research, local expertise and science-driven solutions that respond to real-world challenges.

Beyond technological innovation, this work reinforces an important lesson: environmental sustainability and human well-being are interconnected. Protecting biodiversity, strengthening environmental health and advancing sustainable development require collaboration across scientific disciplines, institutions and communities.

As Tanzania continues to explore innovative pathways towards sustainable development, initiatives such as APOPO offer valuable perspectives on how research can translate into practical solutions with local and global relevance.
