POSTS STORIES REELS

William, your focus and love for the game have always been such a part of who you are. I hope you will keep trusting your own quiet voice…the one that already knows the way forward. I always remember my grandmother telling me when I was young that God gives everyone a gift and it’s our job to nurture that gift and share it with the world. Go forward and nurture those gifts that come in spades to you. Pictures and a song can’t possibly express how much I love you and how proud I am. #classof2026 by @jeaninepayer

The post before this one got a LOT OF LOVE. Please send me a DM to be added to the waitlist (and see last post). I was overwhelmed, in the best possible way, by messages and so many personal stories about specific pieces and what they have held for you and your families. It’s hard to explain how lucky and extraordinary it is to get to make things that are so simple (conduits of poetry; dense like gems) that go out into the wild and become meaningful once chosen and worn with intention….and I am honored to hear your stories 🙏🏻❤️ by @jeaninepayer

After a long pause I’m back at the bench🩷 it’s been a minute! Thank you for your patience (and your sweet messages along the way). I’ve finished a small batch to ship before December 15th. It is the necklace that was waitlisted over a year ago and I was finally able to get to it! They are engraved with ‘out beyond ideas of right doing and wrongdoing there is a field. I’ll meet you there’ ~ Rumi Please DM me if you are interested in getting one! 🥰🩷 by @jeaninepayer

Dearest William!
Today on your 18th birthday, sweet memories have filled my heart up…and I want to sit in those memories as long as I can. The best one is of holding you while watching the sun come up over Mount Tam across the bay, every single morning for the first 4 months of your life. The overwhelming feeling of connection and love was something I’d never experienced and that is one of the gifts a child brings, a quiet and profound joy, and in our case, accompanied by golden light and a new dawn. One of the main feelings around your birth day and the days and hours before…is of time standing still. In this moment time is again standing still. Today there was the same November light. The light that I walked in while trudging up that hill trying to encourage you to come out on the 13th of 2007! And the light on the day we took you home. The light on your tiny face. The light on your face now as you look towards your future.
You are a young man who is curious, driven, funny and smart as a whip, and eager to get on with it! You head straight into whatever brings you joy and learn to do it with mastery. I see you growing in so many ways.
It’s all one wonderful continuum.
And that light is you.
Happy Birthday, my son.
I love you,
Yer Ma by @jeaninepayer

This boy has made us all so proud today. He started playing golf about 2 1/2 years ago and his focus and skill and stick-to-itness has made such a difference in his impressive upward trajectory. I’m really so thrilled to see his win, he’s earned it. And I’m grateful for all the support and guidance he’s gotten from all of his family and coaches along the way.
I love you William, and am so proud of you. You are the world to me. by @jeaninepayer

I cant escape the scale I’ve always worked in. Informed by the natural world around me I’m making things and not questioning what they are quite yet.

The Ruth Asawa retrospective is/was especially moving to our family, not only because Ruth’s art is finally out in the World in such a major way but because we know how much she impacted so many people and we were able to experience that support and inspiration firsthand. My mom was dear friends and a sister in arms with Ruth in their shared insistence that art in the schools be valued like every other subject. Mom was on the SF MoMA panel with Ruth’s family in April, the day the sweet picture of my mom was taken. The stories we heard that day were extraordinary and it felt a little…historic actually. If anyone is interested please DM and I am happy to share the link to the talk. The last pic is of me standing in front of the drawing Ruth did called ‘Jeannine’s Sunflowers from 1999 when I brought them to her. Mom had told Ruth that this was how my name is spelled on my birth certificate and it stuck. I checked the mask she made of me when I was 28 and realized she’d spelled it with the extra n that time as well. I couldn’t believe I was the Jeanine in ‘Jeanine’s Sunflowers’. People would bring her flowers knowing she loved them and she would draw them but i had no knowledge of this drawing until it was included in the show. I felt like I was hit by lightening with a message from the cosmos…and from Ruth, to live as an artist and have a daily practice of intention, draw and work in the studio every single day. I heard Ruth say in a recorded interview that we have to make art in the space between effort and effect. To me that means we have to do the work and don’t worry about what it is going to ultimately ‘be’. The effect will naturally be there. If anyone has a different perspective on what that means to you I’d love to hear it. The show will go on to NY MoMA, then the Guggenheim in Bilbao #inspirational

NEW Update: if you sent a message request and haven’t heard back it’s because I’m in the weeds 😝👀. I promise to get back to everyone by the end of next week at the latest. Thank you for your patience🙏🏻

I’ve run out💫 and thank you to everyone who got one. Also thank you all for your patience. Please DM if you would like to be on the wait list for the next small batch I will be making of these. If you don’t hear back from me today it’s because it takes a minute, but I promise I will get back to you ☺️.

*stuff in progress along with a branch from the redwood tree fell next to the studio but I can’t capture how it really looks in a pic, a gold ‘staple’ on a cracked porcelain bowl, and my son and I on Christmas❤️❤️❤️ (oh! And Jem the cat!) #porcelainstaples #process #japanesearmour #butterflies #mikelightphotography by @jeaninepayer

I have a new torch and it is scaring me to death.
I have a healthy respect for acetylene and oxygen tanks. The flame is so bright and hot it’s like looking into the sun.
But it is allowing me to do some things I’ve wanted to try but couldn’t before mainly because of fear. During the time of ‘JPI’ I worked mainly carving wax models by hand and my talented in house team did the soldering and production work. As I moved away from using a torch at a bench I grew frightened of the tanks and we had up to 15 at one point in our Phelan building studios.
Today I am reacquainting myself with the 23 year old who started making ‘wearable art’ in order to someday afford a workspace ‘with a window’ for my sculpture . That dream went away as the demands of a business and the necessity of a consistent high level creative output became my world. Jewelry had to provide that sculptural passion and exploration. The business was a gift.

I was comfortable with the scale of jewelry, but there were limitations. The very nature of jewelry is functionality. A bracelet must go around a wrist, earrings come in pairs. There is no getting around constraints of a ring going around a finger. Necklaces do allow more freedom. And fashion creeps in and has a final say on things such as chain length and style.

A fellow jewelry designer reached out to ask why I chose sell things in this unconventional manner, in such limited quantities. It gives me a connection to that special project that I devoted my 20’s, 30’s and 40’s to, and the connection to the small group of people who continue to love and appreciate it. And I do it in a streamlined manner that allows me time to myself and to work on other metal and clay projects that are not commercial.

Now it’s just me in a studio, by design. I have windows that look out over gardens and trees. And my fingers emit sparks of fire in anticipation of my future labors.

Thank you all who are patient and supportive. These are all gifts of connection and love. The source of happiness.
