Sorta' like a Cowboy Poet, but with a Jeep instead of a horse - and, no actual poetry. Exploring the Western U.S. one physiographic region at a time.

A month from today I'll leave to meet the Parashant for the first time. Grand Canyon-Parashant National Monument is a wild patch of land in the Arizona Strip, a place described as one of the last truly wild places in the lower 48. Hugging the Arizona-Utah border it has hundreds of miles of unpaved roads and no services - or cell phone service. No one wants to be the guy who went in unprepared, so getting ready for a trip like this is half the fun. Did you know 3 gallons of water weighs more than 3 gallons of gasoline? By a substantial amount, turns out (the RotopaX jugs are empty, BTW). Makes me glad too I'm on 35's and have greater range than if on 37's. You never know when that'll be important. Had the 21D Power Steering Harness recall cleared last week at Brandon DCJR in Loveland, and had a multi-point inspection while there. He's in top shape and eager to get on the trail. More to come as I over prepare. by @jeep.poet

Saw this on the JL Forum and thought it quite applicable. If you own and work on a Jeep, chances are good it has or will turn into a black hole for 10mm sockets. Where do those rascals run off to anyway?

Finally have the @supareeofficialus Recon 1 & Recon 2's installed. A big shout out to @supareeofficialus for sending these LED cube lights to try out. The Recon 2's mount perfectly on either side of the license plate beneath the @rival4x4 grill guard, and the Recon 1's mount perfectly beneath the rear-most bar on the @sherpaec Starlight roof rack. It took a little custom wiring to get the Recon 1's run all the way to the @auxbeamledlight 8-gang switch panel, but a few Amazon orders later and a custom wiring harness was born. The amber DRL's look great at dawn/dusk, and the full-on LED's are insanely bright. In the front they'll provide added safety driving mountain roads. On the rear they're a big improvement over the 🕯️'s & reflector dish back-up lights. #supareeofficialus #sherpaec #rival4x4 by @jeep.poet

With @coffeefishco visiting family in AZ last week had the garage free to install the new shocks. What a difference from the 4 year old Fox shocks that came with the Molar kit 40k+ miles ago. Had no idea what I'd grown accustomed to. Took him for his first real test yesterday, up Big Thompson Canyon and Glen Haven and he tracks like a whole new vehicle. With the lack of body roll I'm able to maintain speed through turns, keeping momentum on hills and lessening acceleration coming out of the turn. Running my adjustable Falcon SP2 3.3's at 2.5 as I get him dialed in and think I've found the sweet spot for on-road handling. Thanks to @bullhide4x4 for hooking me up with a great deal and to the guys n' gals at Teraflex. They really know their stuff-and they're made in Utah. @teraflex4x4 @falcon_teraflex @teraflexsuspension @falconshocks by @jeep.poet

Yesterday on Trail Ridge Road. It's not yet open, but they've been working on clearing some late season snow. Gate is up at Many Parks Curve, but the road is clear for walking up to Rainbow Curve. Didn't make it quite that far but wonderful to be up high again, smelling the cool mountain air in the quiet absence of the parade of automobiles normally choking this beautiful road. by @jeep.poet

Winter sky above the Medicine Bow, Lake John ice in the foreground, North Park, Colorado. Ice fishing isn't for sissies. by @jeep.poet

Been enjoying the Jeep this September with my adventurous bride @coffeefishco. Fishing Delany's south lake one fine evening, traversing Stillwater Creek Pass between CO125 and Grand Lake, and a few other day trips thrown in for grins. Enjoying the @sherpaec Starlight rack, @roamadventureco 83L cargo box and @riversmithusa River Quiver 2-banger, thanks to @stpetesflyshop . Blessed with a perfect setup for exploring Colorado's rivers and scenic byways. by @jeep.poet

Quality not quantity: a great evening of fishing Delaney's South Lake produced some solid strikes. Morning coffee warmed us up after a cool night. South on CO125 over Willow Creek Pass then turned off pavement and headed up and over StillWater Pass, through yet another burn scar in the Never Summer Wilderness. Lunch in Grand Lake, then up & over Trail Ridge Road and home. Proud of my adventurous @coffeefishco for being willing to get jostled around a little. Even saw a large black bear up StillWater Pass road. We saw a lot of our favorite country in just 1 full day out. by @jeep.poet

Beautiful evening on South Delaney. We made it. Escaped the clutches of the world and settled in for a perfect evening of fishing. by @jeep.poet
