Hi! I figured it was time for a little introduction post. I’m Jess, the artist behind JessBecauseArtCo 👋🏼 🖊️ I’ve been doodling since I could hold a pencil but I’ve only been making art professionally for about 2 1/2 years. 🐕 I have a sassy German shepherd husky named Colt. You’d be hard pressed to find another dog with more personality. Is that a good thing? Depends on the day. 🌊 My dream is to own a little Spanish style cottage, steps from the ocean. I did the math and I only have to sell about 35,280 more prints to get there. 💻 My initials are JNN, same as my grandpa. This was the inspiration behind the naming of my design business, JNN Creative. In addition to creating art, I’m a brand / graphic / web designer for small businesses. 🎶 I love music. Seeing live shows is my favorite and I have a playlist for every occasion. And those playlists will have everything from 60’s rock to hip hop and everything in between. Sometimes Instagram can feel like speaking into the void, so if you’ve made it this far, drop your most used emoji in the comments! 💕 JN by @jessbecauseartco
Generational trauma, Scholastic Book Fairs, and a lifelong appreciation for Air Force One. Somehow, this turned into a candle and gift shop in downtown Portland, Oregon. Anyways, please shop local and small. Featured artisans: ✨ @jessbecauseartco ✨ @mulberryjaan ✨ @supercoolceramics ✨ @artthurami ✨ @flying_wolf_studio 📍 All Burn Wax | @unionwaypdx across from Powell’s Books in Portland, Oregon. #ShopSmallPortland #PortlandGiftShop #supportlocalartists by @jessbecauseartco
Happy Halloween! Streets are closed in the village from 3-6 today and we’re fully stocked up on candy! 📍7830 SW 35th Ave. by @jessbecauseartco
Some childhood influences explain more than others. Unfortunately. 😂 While most of our shop features local artisans, we also carry a few makers from elsewhere because their work is just too funny not to share. A questionable sense of humor is apparently part of our buying criteria. Shoutout to some of the wonderfully creative makers you’ll find at our shop: ❤️ @jessbecauseartco ❤️ @mulberryjaan ❤️ @citizenruthbrand ❤️ @binky.and.crumb ❤️ @alderandbonestudio ❤️ @katieguglielmo.art 📍 All Burn Wax | 1022 W Burnside St, Portland, OR Across from Powell’s Books Anyways, shop local and small. Thanks! #AllBurnWax #PortlandGiftShop #ShopLocalPDX #DarkHumor #portlandartists by @jessbecauseartco
Signed, limited edition prints will be available next week at @firstthursdayportland’s Crafts & Cocktails on Nov 5/6, and at @artintheburbsoregon on Nov 7/8! Also, it’s reallyyyy hard to sign one handed while holding the camera 😆 by @jessbecauseartco
It’s definitely NOT the part when I get the credit card bill. 10 brand new ink cartridges, ready to go! Wish me luck this one is less temperamental than its predecessor. by @jessbecauseartco
2 weeks ago today, we lost one of the best dogs ever 💔 The joke always was, Kodi was “the good one”. Colt was wild, Mo is noisy, but of the three, Kodi was the chill one. Whenever he’d ride in the car, I’d keep checking on him to make sure he was breathing because I wasn’t used to such a quiet canine passenger. He would just lay down and chill, happy to be wherever his people are. One year during the Multnomah Days street fair, he sprawled out in the middle of the crowd and people had step over him. Absolutely unbothered. To be fair, laying down was one of his favorite activities. He wasn’t one for fetch. He’d politely return the ball a few times, and then stop and stare at you, like “you go get it if you’re going to continue launching it across the yard”. If you were having a bad day, walking him would cheer you up instantly. Before my mom adopted him, someone had cropped his tail, giving him a corgi butt on a 70lb German shepherd body. It was the cutest thing you ever saw. And he had a STRUT (keep scrolling for wiggle butt tax). This guy would wiggle his way through life, expecting everyone to stop and fawn over his cuteness (which was absolutely the correct response). He even had the tiniest little mustache under his nose that gave him an air of sophistication. While Kodi was mom’s dog, I loved him like my own. He was the sweetest pup. It’s terribly unfair to lose two dogs in one year. The only comfort I can find is that Colt and Kodi were the best of friends. Kodi lost a bit of his sparkle (as we all did) when Colt passed earlier this year. He brought me love and comfort in my grief and I will forever be thankful (and to mom for letting me steal her dog all the time). Colt taught Kodi how to sing, much to my dad’s dismay (listen to the last two slides at your own risk). I know they are back together now, probably singing and tormenting the eardrums of everyone across the rainbow bridge. They even passed on the same day, Wednesday, the 7th, just 9 months apart. There has to be some symmetry in that. Hug your pets a little closer today. There’s never enough time 💔 by @jessbecauseartco
We’re in that transition time between summer and the holidays so I’m curious to see what will be popular today! Oh and I have a few of the puzzles on hand, totally forgot to film them. by @jessbecauseartco
I can’t believe it’s the end of the season already! I had SO much fun at @firstthursdayportland. I had to dig through the camera roll to see how much of it I actually captured…it’s basically all mini prints and puppies, which is about right 😆 Huge thanks to @urbanartnetwork for supporting us local makers! by @jessbecauseartco
5 months of the mini print vending machine and I can’t remember what street fairs were like before it! It’s been so much fun. Up next, fall prints 😳 can you believe it’s almost fall already? by @jessbecauseartco
I’ve never claimed to be a morning person 😆 Lights are on (now), shop is open until 5:30ish! by @jessbecauseartco
The machine is almost empty! We’re down to the very last few mini prints of the summer series. If you’ve been eyeing one in particular, this is your last chance to complete your collection! I’m working on the fall series now so if you have any requests, lemme know! 🍂 Come grab your mini print at the shop, open Wednesday - Sunday until 5:30ish. 📍7830 SW 35th, Portland OR 97229 by @jessbecauseartco
