Some more photos from the @indiemunich Soundcheck Sessions. Thank you again to my friend @roque.alsina for the amazing photos, and of course for joining the jam in the end! by @jessesank

I’m counting down the 30 days before I turn 30 by posting an album each day that had an immeasurable impact on the first 30 years of my life.

The first two albums on my list are from The Beatles. Growing up, The Beatles were often on in my house. In my memories, they were the soundtrack to lazy Sundays and dinner parties alike. Some of my earliest memories are of my dad singing me to sleep with “Blackbird” and “Yellow Submarine,” as well as dancing around the house to “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da.” Nearly everyone in my family were Beatles fans, including the biggest Beatles fan I know, my uncle Al, with whom I’ve had the pleasure of nerding-out over the Beatles with in recent years.

As I entered my teenage years, The Beatles stayed with me. My first ever time performing with a band was when I sang “Day Tripper” in sleepaway camp (@campemersonofficial). I also took part in a Beatles club in middle school, where we performed a few of their classics.
To this day, whenever I go through hard times, listening to The Beatles brings me an indescribable amount of comfort, and it makes me feel closer to my family who lives so far away. Over the years, I’ve gone through multiple Beatles phases and been fixated on different albums of theirs. However, at this stage there are two albums in particular that mean the most to me, the first of which being Rubber Soul.

Other Beatles fans often find it strange that I would choose Rubber Soul as a favorite, but there’s something about it that I can’t get enough of. To me, it’s when The Beatles went from black and white to color. With the albums before it, even when the songwriting is timeless, the production-style feels very vintage. Rubber Soul feels different, however. The production is crisp and clear, and it sounds like they’re singing right in front of my face. Their energy is also something that really draws me to this album, as you can feel their excitement and joy playing together (the malaise of the later era is still far away). It is this energy that makes it feel like they had officially become the band that would change the world forever.

That went well... Or didn't it? Results at the end. @jessesank and I had lots of fun recording drums for our new song "God Let Me Down" at @suedparkstudio . Did you know that you can tune your drumset and change the sound a lot just by adding something to dampen the different drums? That's what they are doing. So cool for me to watch the whole process. Thank you Jesse for your hard work during the full takes and this amazing arrangement of yours!
