I’ve tried to compile this post many times and it feels impossible to sum up. A little over 3 weeks ago we said goodbye to our boy and our hearts will never be the same without him. ❤️‍🩹 Archie was more than a dog to us. He truly was our baby and we feel like the luckiest people on the planet to spend 11 years of his life with him. When we adopted him we had no idea how old he was, so 11 years is an incredible amount of time and we will never take it for granted. I spotted Archie while scrolling Instagram and a post from @maedayrescue came up. I instantly felt connected to him. I saw not only had he been at the shelter for months…but also in foster care for months, and even returned by one potential family. I cried all day. He was perfect, how could this be? All day I thought about him, my heart pulling me to him. I knew he was our family. Thankfully, we got to do a meet and greet and fell even more in love. Zoey was fascinated by his long luscious locks 🤣, and his energy was the perfect match to hers. The yin to her yang. We didn’t even need to do a full trial…we knew the second he stepped into our home he wouldn’t be leaving. I believe he was waiting for us. It was always meant to be.

Before Archie, I knew nothing about dogs in shelters, how overcrowded shelters are resulting in dogs being euthanized (perfectly healthy, adoptable dogs). I couldn’t stomach the fact that there were more Archies out there, just suffering in a shelter, scared and alone, or bouncing around from foster home to foster home waiting for the stability of a forever family. He inspired us to foster 20 something dogs with the help of Maeday Rescue. I believe each of our foster dogs felt at peace because Archie always communicated to them that he’d been there, and they were now safe.

He is ultimately a huge reason I stopped eating animals. He changed my entire world view, taught me so much about empathy and resilience. His calm and peaceful demeanor always grounded us when the world was spinning out of control.
