Design is deeply collaborative, and I’m incredibly proud of the group of people behind our work. Meet the team behind JRS ID: We each bring a different perspective, set of strengths, and way of thinking to the table, from big-picture concepts and construction details to sourcing, project management, operations, and everything that happens in between. Fortunately, we all have a strong sense of humor! There are a lot of moving pieces behind every finished project, and this is the team asking the questions, solving the problems, keeping track of the details, and bringing it all together. Swipe through to get to know us a little better. Have a project in mind? We’d love to hear about it. Reach out through the link in our bio and let’s talk about what we can create together. by @jessicariskosmith

Santa Barbara saves its best for October. The fog lifts, the light turns golden, evenings stay warm after the sun drops behind the mountains and the ocean beckons you for a morning swim. It’s the month the outdoor room comes into its own. We design outdoor spaces with the same rigor as the interiors they extend: architecture first, natural materials that weather beautifully, and seating made for long dinners and slow mornings. Spaces meant to be lived in, not just looked at. We would love to help you live your best Santa Barbara life. Every home has a sweet spot, and in this 1930s beach cottage, a little built-in desk tucked under the sloped ceiling, with warm wood walls, a woven chair, and fresh flowers, is just that. In a home made for gathering, it still matters to have a quiet place to land, even if it is just a little seat. From safe and neutral to sexy and sophisticated. Still classic, but with an edge. This primary bathroom suite was refreshed for it's next chapter with custom cabinetry in light french grey, living brass, white rhino marble pair with classic marble in herringbone and subway format tiles. The geometric mosaic floor with brass inlay gives the room its vibe. Nothing about these classic materials says boring—everything about this combination says "oh my". by @jessicariskosmith
CONVERSATIONS WITH ARTISTS | This Friday, September 25 Join us for an intimate evening of wine, art, design, and creative exchange with three Santa Barbara women whose work explores creativity from very different perspectives. Sylvan Butera Rich | Artist Sylvie is a Santa Barbara-based painter known for her expressive interpretations of the California landscape. Inspired by the Central Coast, her work explores color, movement, memory, and our connection to the natural world. Her current solo exhibition, COLORS OF THE COAST, is on view at Art & Soul through September 27. Jessica Risko Smith | Interior Designer Jessica is a Santa Barbara interior designer known for creating thoughtful, highly personal spaces that balance beauty, function, architecture, and the way people actually live. Her work brings an experienced design perspective to the conversation about art, place, and the spaces we call home. Jennifer Blaise Kramer | Writer + Editor Jennifer is a Santa Barbara-based writer and editor whose work focuses on design, architecture, lifestyle, and the creative people and places that shape how we live. She brings the storyteller’s perspective—exploring how ideas, environments, and creative lives become stories worth sharing. The three are also longtime friends and were instrumental in founding Rough Drafters, a Santa Barbara creative salon started in 2021 to bring writers and creatives together to share work, ideas, and inspiration. Join us for a taste of Margerum wine and an informal conversation about art, design, creativity, place, and the many ways a creative life takes shape. Friday, September 25 | 5–7PM Conversation begins promptly at 5:30PM Wine by Margerum Wines Art & Soul | 1323 State Street | Santa Barbara Space is limited—we hope you’ll join us. by @jessicariskosmith
We're big believers that a beach home should feel casual and fun. Here, that meant bold blue cabinetry, open shelving with room for everyday dishes, woven shades for softness, and a planked ceiling that keeps things feeling relaxed and true to the cottage. This project was all about the details. The client directive was a true beach cottage feel, and in the powder bath we achieved it through material, color and craft. Graphic concrete tile wraps the room, custom gingham shades soften the wall sconces, and a brass whale-tail hook add just a touch of kitsch. Collected, whimsical, and unique. #JRSID #beachcottage #santabarbaradesign by @jessicariskosmith
Good interior design creates a place for everything, and makes that place beautiful too. Swipe through for a few of our favorite kitchen storage moves including a hidden prep sink tucked behind cabinetry, open shelving for display doubling as sculpture, an integrated paper towel holder tucked out of sight and semi-concealed storage for hard working items. Different solutions, same idea: function and beauty, designed together. Thank you, @housebeautiful, for the feature! Link in bio for the full story. Which of these would you love for your own kitchen? by @jessicariskosmith
📍Hope Ranch Residence, Santa Barbara A collected California interior defined by architecture, personal art and objects, and a strong sense of place. Warm materials, sculptural lighting and the relationship between contemporary and vintage furniture pieces give this home its soul, while distinctive art and objects collected over time give it its voice. The result is a family home that feels layered, interesting and distinctly personal. Which elements speak to you? Architect: BHN Architects Photography: Mellon Studio by @jessicariskosmith
This Montecito renovation was shaped by its existing architecture. Wide-plank redwood floors, detailed beamed ceilings, and the original sandstone fireplace establish the character, while the rest reflects the family who lives here. Nothing is too precious, matched, or expected, which gives it a timeless feel. Quiet textures balance bold patterns and original art, and smooth quartzite plays against rough stone. This mix of old and new makes a home feel collected and personal. If this is the feeling you're after, let's create it together. by @jessicariskosmith
We're JRS ID. A team of six led by Jessica Risko Smith. We create interiors that are architecturally grounded, artfully collected, and materially expressive, balanced with thoughtful restraint. Specializing in full construction projects, each space we design is tailored, refined, and highly livable. Reach out at our link in bio, or say hello here. We would love to meet you. 🖤 📸: @heysaraprince by @jessicariskosmith
