Live music + glimpses of life in Portland. Supposedly I compose stuff of my own from time to time.

Missed the @swellseasonofficial concert the other night, so in honor of @glenhansard and @marketa_irglova, here's @irhymewithbanana and me singing "Falling Slowly" (from the movie musical Once) - one of our all-time favorites to do together. <3

(recorded May '22)

Extremely rusty - the voice is clearly not up to the task on that chorus 😅 - but hey, have to (re)start somewhere. Thanks to @lunalilunalilunali for inspiring me by writing such a lovely tune that I couldn’t help but want to learn it and play/sing again. <3 by @jfreund1

Fun with synths. 🙂 Definitely turning this idea into a full track once the 21 days are up. by @jfreund1

It was an utter delight to catch @theolllam last month for their first US tour in a decade and first ever visit to Portland. 🙌 A rapturous night of music from an eclectic group that includes pipers & whistlers from Ireland and Scotland as well as Joe Dart from Vulfpeck holding things down on bass.

If you're not familiar, I highly recommend giving their 2022 album Elllegy a spin. It's become a personal favorite. by @jfreund1

When the opportunity to record with your long-distance bestie for the first time in years presents itself, you take advantage - doesn't matter how rusty you may be or that you haven't fully learned the song yet. 😅

Here's to those who stick around. 😌

Really feeling this song right now, and realized I never posted anything from the magical night when @couch.theband rolled through a year ago. So... correcting that.

@cloudgem (Orion Sun) show was a dream. 🤩

Thrilling to see her come into her own over the years. Wednesday was the most confident and joyous I’ve ever seen her - clearly locked in and loving what she’s doing up on stage in a way that is so affirming to witness and be part of. 😌 The new gospel-fied arrangements work really well for her material, her voice has never sounded better, and the mutual appreciation between her and the Portland audience was palpable.

Definitely one of my fav shows of the year. 🙌 by @jfreund1

It's a special thing to finally see a band live for the first time after having had a relationship with their music for almost two decades.

@itsthegoteam were, as expected, a singular experience.
