LAMPARA NI NANAY (Mum’s Lamp) Ebonized Tasmanian oak, capiz, epoxy resin 53 x 23 x 23cm A decorative table lamp (dimmable) made from ebonized Tasmanian Oak and Capiz (Placuna Placenta) shell shards cast in resin. Reminiscent of Filipino Heritage (Bahay Na Bato) houses where the shells are used for windows. Now showing and available at @craftvictoria for the DONE/UNDONE exhibition curated by @joseph_gardner Image by Claire Armstrong courtesy of Craft Victoria. by @jgatip
DONE/UNDONE now open till 7 February 2026 Check out this incredible show that I am honoured to be be in amongst such a high calibre of artists, makers and designers. Here “Bakunawa” sits in conversation with the playful geometries of the “Arc Tables” by @adamgoodrumstudio and “Codependence” chairs by @streifen._ in the foreground. Curated by Joseph Gardner at @craftvictoria. “Bakunawa” delves into pre-colonial narratives and materials that form the socio-cultural biography of my home country. Made from materials that are inherently Filipino, capiz and pearls. Pearls being a trade currency in the past and capiz shells as a traditional building material used in windows, this piece seeks to add on to this narrative. Tradition pushed into contemporary use in design ensures the preservation of them into the future. TRADITION. FORWARD. For John Gatip, contemporary design becomes a way of carrying cultural and material traditions forward, rather than leaving them fixed in the past. _________________________________ Discover John Gatip on Afield. by @jgatip
Spring has sprung. From the greenhouse to the garden. I’ve been growing these annual flowering plants since autumn from seed and finally seeing some rewarding results. This process has been research for my last two painting collections. Volume 2 is now available @brunswickstreetgallery. Colours are finally starting to show. These flowers will be used for the big day coming up. Wish me luck for more blooms!! by @jgatip
PUNNET #31 – CORNFLOWER + COLIBRI CHIARO GIALLO 2026 OIL ON PREMIUM PLY, FRAMED 23X23CM by @jgatip
The Fata Morgana variety is what I’m really excited for from the pincushion flowers that I’ve sown. A champagne, creamy butter colour with just that hint of an apricot blush in the center. Bought my seeds from @veggieandflowergardenseeds - they have some amazing varieties of flowers and vegetables. SCABIOSA FATA MORGANA JOHN GATIP 2026 OIL ON PREMIUM PLY, FRAMED 33X33CM by @jgatip
This is probably my favorite combo of colours and pattern from THE GREENHOUSE collection @brunswickstreetgallery PUNNET #6 – MERLOT ET SAUMON 2026 OIL ON PREMIUM PLY, FRAMED 23X23CM by @jgatip
Poppy seeds are so tiny and they have the daintiest ljttle seedling that is as thin as a strand of hair. I’m growing a few varieties from Papaver rhoeas to the Papaver nudicaule. Hopefully get some nice crepe like blooms. THE GREENHOUSE collection now available at @brunswickstreetgallery POPPY SHIRLEY DOUBLE JOHN GATIP OIL ON PREMIUM PLY, FRAMED 23X23CM by @jgatip
Ammi Majus a beautiful white lace like florets. I’ll be growing these in more leaner soils. The colours I chose for this paintings are not the fully opened florets that will be in a white colour, but rather the young buds and the slender stems. Unfortunately, a slug ate my third succession planting…. Need some slug and snail protection. PUNNET #16 – AMMI MAJUS 2026 OIL ON PREMIUM PLY, FRAMED 33X33CM The Greenhouse Collection now available at @brunswickstreetgallery. Playlist and flower growing guides also available for free ;) by @jgatip
As the winter rages on, I start to imagine the colours that would hopefully emerge into blooms from my punnets of seedling. I’m mostly looking forward to the dainty nature of cosmos. Rubenza, Kiiro, Versailles, Brightlights and Apricotta are the varieties that I will be planting.
