I could use a little extra peace today. It’s been a busy week of editing and launching and I’ve had some back issues that have made things harder.
If you could use a little more peace today too, I invite you to enjoy the sounds of a simple candle lighting.

❓Which sounds help you relax? Do you experience ASMR when hearing certain sounds?

ASMR = Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response:
a feeling of well-being combined with a tingling sensation in the scalp and down the back of the neck, as experienced by some people in response to a specific gentle stimulus, often a particular sound.
“ASMR is triggered by things like whispering voices, paper tearing, and scalp massage” (dictionary.com)

So why does the candle pop and crackle like that? It’s because of the double layer wooden wicks that @the.book.nerd.fox uses in her candles. As it burns, the wood crackles. It makes for a special sensory experience and I love it.

Also, the cool lighter is an electric lighter. They’re so fun and they’re safer than the traditional flame ones, are rechargeable, and wind proof. I love that they don’t run out of fuel and have to be replaced like my others.
You can find the lighter (in three colors) and tons of amazing candles @the.book.nerd.fox
Use my code: GWYN10 to get a discount.

P.S. It’s much easier to use the lighter than it looked. I held it extremely awkwardly in this video for some reason. 😜

Happy release day to the stunning Saints and Monsters by @ellenmcginty_author
➡️➡️to see the gorgeous hardcase cover. Covers designed by @eahcreative

This is story of an unwilling princess who has battled her own body her whole life and now has to try to save her kingdom. And it’s so good!!

I had the extreme pleasure of editing this wonderful book so it holds a special place in my heart. 💙

❓ What’s your favorite historical, far away, or fantasy setting in a book?

AOTD: it’s hard to choose just one, but Narnia will always be up there on the list. Also the vivid and varied settings in the Calculated series by @nova_mcbee_author And the world of long ago Japan (with added fantasy elements), in which Saints and Monsters is set.

More about Saints and Monsters from @quill.and.flame.publishers

With her crooked spine and reckless heart, Princess Meera always knew she wasn’t meant to become queen of Ezo. But when her sister, the rightful heir, is cursed on the eve of her coronation, Meera must defend her kingdom from ruthless invaders by taking the throne. Yet, while some countries have simple coronations, in Ezo . . .

The princess must first claim a sea dragon.

Only the dragon is vicious, perfect, and whole-everything Meera is not. And if the dragon doesn’t deem her worthy, it will devour her. Turning to the Saints for help, she doesn’t anticipate that her actions will transform the dragon into a mortal, or that she’ll steal his heart . . . literally.

Now, as two hearts beat inside Meera’s chest, she’s reminded that her life is entwined with a dragon, who despises her weaknesses. Despite their differences, they must work together to reverse the curse and save the kingdom before more is lost than their stolen hearts.

Oh my goodness, this trailer is epic!! @sofiasimpsonauthor upcoming release, Torch, continues the tumultuous journey of Vela and Linc and it’s not one you want to miss! Trust me!

❓ Do you enjoy book trailers? What about them tends to catch your eye?

AOTD: I love book trailers, when they’re as well done as this one. They give me a window into the world of the book and let me know it’s a place I NEED to explore!

From the back cover of Torch:

Running away from the dangerous Extremists seemed like the right thing to do.
But in her escape with Linc to a hidden, remote place in Northern Canada, she soon finds being on the run is just as dangerous. Crossing Elemental territory lines where boundaries are the most volatile, and prejudices run hot, Vela and Linc struggle to stay alive.
Limping into the uppermost reaches of Canada to their sanctuary, the Polar Bear Lodge, Vela and Linc discover a utopia. Families of intermarriages, couples with differing elements, have produced children with multiple gifts and Vela and Linc see what their world would be like if their clans stopped fighting and lived peacefully.
The answer is to unite the clans, which a long-awaited prophecy promises if the Chosen Child comes to do it. Vela is, once again, forced to accept she might be the mother of this Child, but is she willing to be a part of this prophecy?
To complicate her life further, someone in this community is determined to win Vela’s attention. Her Intended bond with Linc doesn’t stop this Elemental from trying everything he can to entice her.
Can Linc win the fight for her heart? Will this prophecy be her undoing or the Elementals’ salvation?

Terra, book one in An Elemental Series is available now. You can preorder book two, Torch on Amazon. More info in my story.

Book trailer credit to @sofiasimpsonauthor and her team who I will tag in the comments. I only added the captions.

(The captions spelled Linc’s name wrong)

Oh, how I love starting a new project!!
This one is for the lovely @sofiasimpsonauthor and I cannot wait to dive in!!

❓What do you have in the works, writing, reading, work related, or personal?

#freelanceditor #novellaediting #sofiasimpsonauthor #gwynlaunchesbooks by @jgwynedits

Well, I do have other interests…
But yes, I rather enjoy “altering” someone else’s draft. I have the pleasure of working on a manuscript by @sofiasimpsonauthor right now and it’s so much fun!
I don’t gleefully splash red ink around, but I do offer thoughtful and considerate suggestions and feedback. The goal is to help shape an author’s manuscript into the best book it can be. While preserving the author’s voice and style, I enjoy polishing off rough edges, filling in those dreaded plot holes, and fleshing out the details.
I enjoy all the nitty gritty parts of editing and so love helping indie authors.

If you happen to be looking for an editor, I have just a couple openings left this year and I’m booking into next year. Check out my website gwynedits.com for more information about my services and rates.
