I had such a great time chatting with Ayo Owodunni at the launch of our book! We laughed a lot and had some serious conversations too.

Ayo, thank you for the idea that started this journey and for inviting me to bring it to life with you. It’s been a pleasure creating something we hope will help others navigate public leadership.

In this clip, we get into the “grey zone”, one of the topics we explore in The Public Sector Leader’s Playbook: Decision-Making, Diplomacy & Citizen Trust.

If you’re serving, thinking about running for office, or simply curious about what happens behind the scenes, get yourself a copy!

And if you know a professor teaching political science, public administration or governance, please send this their way. We’d love them to consider it for their students.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and cheered us on!

3 DAYS TO GO!

After months of writing, refining, and drawing on our experiences in public service, Ayotunde Owodunni and I are excited to introduce The Public Sector Leader’s Playbook: Decision-Making, Diplomacy & Citizen Trust.

Serving two terms on council taught me that winning an election is only the beginning. The decisions, relationships, and responsibility that follow are what inspired this book.

I would love for you to celebrate this milestone with us and join the conversation about leading well and earning public trust.

CLIENT APPRECIATION: Four years in real estate. Over 50 individuals served. And so much to be grateful for!

When I began my real estate journey four years ago, I knew I wanted to do more than help people buy and sell properties. I wanted to build meaningful relationships, earn trust, and make a difference in people's lives.

Four years later, I've had the privilege of serving over 50 individuals, walking alongside them through some of life's biggest decisions.

From first-time homebuyers to growing families, people relocating, selling, or investing, every journey has been unique, and every relationship has meant something to me.

And I don't take that trust for granted.

This Sunday, I'm hosting a Client Appreciation Event, and it's really my way of saying THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me with their real estate needs, referred a friend or family member, encouraged me, or supported this journey in one way or another.

Beyond celebrating my clients, I also see this as an opportunity to reconnect, build new relationships, and introduce you to some of the incredible professionals I partner with to make the real estate journey easier.

I'm delighted to have joining me:

Connie Graham @etownmortgage | Indi Mortgage — Mortgage Broker

Yemi Philip | Philip Law Office — Lawyer

@dumitru.inspects.abuyerschoice Iancu | A Buyer's Choice — Property Inspector

Together, we'll be answering your questions about buying, selling, financing, legal considerations, home inspections, and more.

And yes, there will be food, good conversations, and a little something to win!

Sunday, October 25, 2026
1:30 PM – 3:30 PM
Mutti Homes Showhome
3329 Chickadee Drive NW, Edmonton (Starling)

Family and friends are welcome!

Whether we've worked together before or we're yet to meet, I'd love to have you join us.

Kindly RSVP by texting 587-812-8973

Here's to four years of relationships, trust, learning, and the privilege of being part of people's stories.

And here's to many more!

You don’t have to hold elected office to care about how leadership works.

Perhaps you work in public administration, turning council decisions into services people depend on.

Perhaps you teach governance, study public policy, or hope to serve your community one day.

Or perhaps you’re a resident who has wondered: Why was that decision made? Whose concerns were considered? What happens when leaders disagree?

These questions deserve thoughtful answers.

When Ayo Owodunni and I wrote The Public Sector Leader’s Playbook, we drew on our experiences in elected office to explore the decisions, relationships, and responsibilities behind public leadership.

We wanted to make those lessons useful beyond the council chamber.

Through real-world cases and practical frameworks, the book explores how leaders navigate competing priorities, exercise judgment, and earn public trust.

Our hope is that it supports better decisions at work, meaningful discussions in classrooms, and a deeper understanding of what public service requires.

The Public Sector Leader’s Playbook: Decision-Making, Diplomacy & Citizen Trust launches October 30, 2026.

What is one thing you wish more people understood about public leadership? by @jibsabitoye

7 HOURS TO GO, ALBERTA!

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak at church about the Alberta referendum, the questions before us, and why informed participation matters.

I shared a few thoughts, added a little humour, but the message was serious.
You don't have to agree with me. You don't have to agree with your neighbour.

But you should understand what is being asked, what the implications could be, and make your own informed decision.

Democracy isn't about everyone thinking alike. It's about having a voice and the opportunity to use it.

The polls close at 8 PM tonight.
If you haven't voted yet, there's still time!

Find your voting location at www.elections.ab.ca.

Your Voice Matters! by @jibsabitoye

Can people disagree with your decision and still trust you?

In public leadership, you can listen carefully, weigh the evidence, consider the alternatives, and still make a decision that disappoints people.

A resident wanted a different outcome.
A community organisation expected funding.
A service people value has to change.

The disappointment is real. So is the responsibility to explain your decision.

What information did you consider?
Whose concerns did you hear?
What trade-offs did you weigh?
What happens next?

Over my eight years on council, I learned that explaining a decision matters just as much when the vote is over as it does before the vote takes place.

People may still disagree. But they deserve to understand your reasoning, have their concerns treated with respect, and know how you will assess whether the decision is working.

For elected officials and public administrators, that responsibility is shared, even when our roles are different.

Public trust is one of the central themes Ayo and I explore in The Public Sector Leader’s Playbook: Decision-Making, Diplomacy & Citizen Trust.

I’d love to hear your perspective: When a public decision goes against what you wanted, what helps you maintain trust in the people making it?

“You won the seat. Now comes the hard part.”

We spend months preparing people to win elections.

Campaign strategies. Fundraising. Door knocking. Debates. Speeches. Promises.

But what happens the morning after the victory?

For many newly elected municipal officials, there is an orientation to introduce them to governance, legislation, policies, budgets and their responsibilities.

And then the real work begins.

Suddenly, you are expected to navigate complex relationships, understand competing priorities, make decisions that affect thousands of people and manage public expectations.

Sometimes with incomplete information and no perfect options.

And here’s something we don’t talk about enough:

Being elected gives you authority. It doesn’t automatically give you the skills to lead.

Those skills must be developed, refined and strengthened through experience, mentorship and continuous learning.

Over my eight years in municipal government, I came to appreciate that effective public leadership requires much more than good intentions.

It requires sound judgment, diplomacy, emotional intelligence, accountability and the ability to build trust, especially when decisions are difficult or unpopular.

These are some of the conversations Ayotunde Owodunni and I explore in our upcoming book, “The Public Sector Leader’s Playbook: Decision-Making, Diplomacy & Citizen Trust.:

Because public leadership is too important to leave preparation to chance.

Here’s a question worth asking: Are we doing enough to prepare elected officials for the realities of governing, beyond the initial orientation?

I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Launching October 30, 2026. by @jibsabitoye

I had passion. I had purpose. What I didn’t have was a playbook.

When I was first elected to public office in 2017, I thought I was ready.

I had spent months knocking on doors, listening to residents, understanding their concerns and sharing my vision for our community.

And then I won.

What I quickly discovered was that winning an election and knowing how to govern are two very different things.

Nobody really prepares you for the weight of the decisions, the complexity of relationships, the delicate balance between politics and administration, or the responsibility of earning and maintaining public trust.

There were lessons I learned through experience, mistakes I could have avoided, and moments when I wished someone had simply told me what to expect.

I often wondered: Why do we spend so much time preparing people to win elections, but so little time preparing them to lead once they get there?

That question stayed with me.

And eventually, it became something much bigger.

Over the past several months, my friend and co-author, Ayo Owodunni @theimmigrantview and I have been working on a book:

“The Public Sector Leaders Playbook: Decision-Making, Diplomacy amp; Citizen Trust.”

We have poured our experiences, lessons, research and reflections into a practical guide for those who serve in public leadership and those aspiring to do so.

On October 30, 2026, we will be launching this book.

Over the coming weeks, Ill share more about the journey, what inspired the chapters, and some of the lessons we believe every public leader should know.

Before the clock strikes midnight in my birth country, let me wish my beloved Nigeria a Happy Independence Day! 🇳🇬💚

There are many challenges in our country, and we cannot pretend they do not exist. But today, I celebrate Nigeria’s greatest asset: its people.

You will find Nigerians in some of the most unexpected corners of the world, building businesses, advancing knowledge, serving communities and making their mark. We carry a remarkable ability to begin again, make something out of little and keep hope alive when circumstances give us every reason to give up.

Our resilient spirit is second to none. Yet my hope is that future generations will have more opportunities to flourish without having to overcome so much.

Today, I celebrate the everyday Nigerians whose courage, creativity and hard work keep our nation moving. Those at home and those abroad, carrying Nigeria in their hearts wherever life takes them.

Nigeria, you gave me my roots, my first dreams and a spirit that still shapes who I am.

May our beloved country become a place where its people’s immense potential can fully bloom. May peace, justice and opportunity reach every home.

Happy Independence Day, Nigeria. You are deeply loved. 🇳🇬
