Do That Shit Scared ™️
POSTS STORIES REELS
I created Jijivisha Holistic because I was tired of barely surviving. At 30, I survived a stroke. At 34, I starting painting as a meditative practice. At 36, I rec'vd a grant that solidified me as an Artist. And somewhere in between, I realized that I wanted to actually live—not just exist. When I was naming my company, I knew I wanted it to be honest, straight to the point, & reflect who I am as a person. I knew I wanted a pretty word but also one that's not easily pronounced, one that requires you to slow down and be intentional when speaking it. Jijivisha means the intense desire to live and keep living. Do That Shit Scared was born from the same place. I’m not here to sell perfection. I’m here to hold space for truth, growth, rest, art, and all the messy parts in between. If you’ve ever felt like you were drowning in anxiety, held back by trauma, or unsure how to even begin again—this page is for you. This is for the Black women who hold it all together and want to fall apart safely. This is for the eldest daughters, the caretakers, the creatives, the ones healing out loud. Stick around if you’re ready to grow 🫶🏾 Join my email list for guided mediations, yoga flows, journal prompts, resources for mental health, and to learn more about the mind-body connection! 🚨BREAKING NEWS: Little Black girl from the Eastside of Detroit is being affirmed!!!!🚨 To the city that made me, love you forever it 💯 Bc of the lessons I learned at home, I've survived some really hard shit, moved to Tucson, learned I'm an artist, then built the spaces I wish had existed for me 💪🏽 Now Jijivisha Holistic has been awarded an African American Legacy Fund grant 🥹 I have spent years pouring into ideas before there was money attached to them, teaching the classes, producing the shows, writing the proposals, applying for grants... carrying the bulk of the work alone. I've been figuring it out - but this means so much!! The work is being seen, trusted, platformed, and funded. Amen and Asé 🙌🏾 Detroit raised me to be intuitive, resilient, and grounded in my Blackness - I could never say thank you enough no matter how hard on me that city is 😂 But Tucson helped me articulate my purpose and gave my dreams room to stretch out!! That little girl from the Eastside who saw the Heidelberg Project before it was considered a cultural landmark is jumping for joy inside my chest, screaming WE MADE IT! Thank you to everyone who has attended, performed, partnered, shared a post, encouraged me, supported and believed this work deserved to continue. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to live out my dreams and share the gifts God gave me 🫶🏾 This grant belongs to the future we are building together 💛 let's fockin goooooo 🗣 Grant Winner. Jijivisha Holistic. Light The Mic. Black Tucson. Detroit Artist. Do That Shit Scared. When you see me, see you 💯 Everything I do is for Black people. Shouts to @lightthemicfriday and every artist that's ever touched that stage, and especially to the ones who've helped me keep it going!!! Here's to more memories!! When you see me, see you 💯 Everything I do is for Black women especially!! She Said What She Said is getting even better! Thank you so much for seeing me and honoring the work I've done with more than just visibility 🙏🏽 I can't wait to serve my community with higher capacity and more intention!! Congratulations to the other grantees!!! Let's collaborate!! @cfsouthernaz @azartscomm by @jijivishaholistic
I have not been practicing what I preach as much as I would like to. And by that, I mean I've not been in my painting practice the way I need to be. That changes today! 💯 As I approach 40, I find myself wanting to settle in... to comfort and ease with a shot of spontaneity... to experience daily joys and personal signatures... I've wondered if that growth is being reflected in my art. I decided on a few motifs that will be recurring in every piece of new work. Been really excited to execute but having so many ideas at once was causing paralysis 🥲 How did I get past it? I'm glad you asked lol. I switched up my process. Instead of dancing first, I took some time to meditate in direct sunlight, then brainstormed a list of things that have nourished me throughout my life, in the hopes they would shine through in the most subtle but significant ways. This process was full of joy but it also brought some grief. I realized that in 2023, when I became unhoused, I had stopped creating for me and started to create what I thought would sell. For obvious reasons, but once I got back in a steady place to live, I've just been waiting for the other shoe to drop... I still have boxes packed from 2yrs ago 🥲 This piece showed me how stagnant I'd become. I wasn't trying new things - not bc I was scared - but bc I couldn't afford it... at least that's what my brain told me and the lie detector test determined that was a lie! I have paint at home, but a lack mindset told me not to use it all - which really led to me not using it at all - and therefore not making any money... the fear of not making money caused me to not make money... the jokes write themselves lmfao Anywho, this is your reminder to not let your brain talk you out of doing the things. The time will pass anyway. I wonder what my art would look like if I hadn't become unhoused at the height of my 'winning season'? I guess we'll never know, but what I do know is that it's time to play!! Jijivisha Holistic. MeelaJayArt. SelfLove. Accountability. Growth. Healing Through Art. by @jijivishaholistic
She Knows The Stars Are Stories Mixed media on flat canvas 2025 This piece is a cosmic archive. A figure composed of ancestral memory, intuitive vision, and embodied power. Inspired by my great granny, my best friend's granny, and my Bam Bam. She is formed by three sacred spirits: • Owl as seer and symbol reader. • Serpent as keeper of transformation. ▪︎ Bear as protector of softness and strength Her painted dress maps five original constellations: ▪︎ Spiral Path (nonlinear healing) ▪︎ Ancestor’s Hand (legacy and touch) ▪︎ Rooted Flame (grounded passion) ▪︎ Eye of the Storm (stillness in chaos) ▪︎ The Wombkeeper (creation and care) #ATHCreativeFund @artstoheartsproject by @jijivishaholistic
We heard the promises. We learned the statistics. We did some work. We celebrated some milestones. But we're back at square one 🤬 We see the headlines. We see the laws and bills being overturned. We see the way you talk to, and about women and children. We see the people letting it slide bc it's not happening to them yet... Did the last 6yrs teach you nothing? HOW MUCH LONGER? Tell me in the comments: What is one promise to women you're tired of hearing without results? She Said What She Said. SSWSS27. Funding directly targeting gender equality has collapsed to its lowest level since 2021... and it's not an accident. You voted away evergreen protections for women and are now spinning plates to figure out why all this shit is unraveling 🤭 It's bc women aren't the only ones who benefit when we have the capacity to dream... Every vote for the lesser of two evils is feeding your descendants to the machine. When will the people upholding patriarchy decide enough is enough? #HowMuchLonger #GiveToGain #SheSaidWhatSheSaid #SSWSS27 #MyBodyMyChoice by @jijivishaholistic
The research was conducted by the UN in (which includes US), and they didn't even bother to acknowledge it... even as digital and AI-related threats continue to surge. Nearly 30% of adolescent girls aged 15–19 (approximately 43 million girls worldwide) have experienced intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both at least once in their lives. Looking strictly at adolescent girls who have ever been married or in a partnership, 23% (more than 1 in 5) have already been subjected to physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner. For the vast majority, this violence is highly recent. Are you paying attention? When will we decide enough is enough? What actions are YOU willing to take to put an end to violence against women? #HowMuchLonger #GiveToGain #SheSaidWhatSheSaid #SSWSS27 #ProtectWomen by @jijivishaholistic
Over 316 million women globally experienced physical or sexual violence from an intimate partner in a single 12-month span. Roughly 840 million women (nearly 1 in 3 globally) have faced partner or sexual violence in their lifetime. When will we decide enough is enough? What are YOU willing to give to put an end to violence against women? See you in March. #HowMuchLonger #GiveToGain #SheSaidWhatSheSaid #SSWSS27 #PayLivingArtists by @jijivishaholistic
