🔥 SOMEONE WAS SETTING HOMES ON FIRE. AND INVESTIGATORS WERE STARTING TO SEE THE PATTERN. 📍 Washington, DC & Prince George’s County, MD 📅 July 9, 2003 Five fires. Gasoline. Cloth. Occupied homes. And one terrifying possibility… A SERIAL ARSONIST WAS HUNTING FOR HIS NEXT FIRE. As investigators compared the evidence, the similarities became increasingly difficult to ignore. The fires often occurred between 4 and 5 a.m. While families slept. While neighborhoods were quiet. While the person responsible remained unidentified. The investigation would eventually lead to Thomas Sweatt, whose 27-year history of arson involved more than 300 fires. But what makes his story particularly disturbing isn’t just the number of fires. It’s what he admitted the flames did for him. 📖 Discover the psychology and investigation behind the crimes in Thomas Sweatt: Inside the Mind of DC’s Most Notorious Arsonist. 🌐 ThomasSweattBook.com #ThomasSweatt #SerialArsonist #CriminalPsychology #TrueCrimeBooks #FireInvestigation by @jonriffe
🔥 SOME PEOPLE BLOW OUT CANDLES. THOMAS SWEATT PREFERRED TO WATCH THINGS BURN. For most people, a birthday means cake, candles, and celebration. For Thomas Sweatt, fire was something far more sinister. For nearly three decades, he stalked neighborhoods across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia, deliberately setting fires to occupied homes and apartment buildings. More than 300 fires. Families asleep in their beds. Victims who never had a chance to escape. And a man who admitted that setting fires gave him sexual gratification. Imagine the birthday candles on a rooftop. Now imagine the entire house becoming the candle. Today, Sweatt spends his birthdays behind prison walls, serving a life sentence for the destruction he left behind. No candles. No celebration. Just the consequences of a lifetime of obsession. 📖 Thomas Sweatt: Inside the Mind of DC’s Most Notorious Arsonist The true story is more disturbing than anything Hollywood could invent. 🌐 ThomasSweattBook.com #ThomasSweatt #TrueCrime #SerialArsonist #DarkTrueCrime #CriminalPsychology by @jonriffe
🚨 THE FACE INVESTIGATORS HOPED WOULD BREAK THE CASE. 📅 September 16, 2003 📍 Washington, DC & Prince George’s County, MD A police sketch was released to the public. Investigators were searching for a suspected serial arsonist connected to a growing pattern of suspicious fires. 🔥 28 fires under investigation. 🔎 A composite sketch developed from a witness description. 🏠 Communities living with the threat of another fire. 🚨 A public appeal for information. The headline in The Washington Post read: “Sketch of Arson Suspect Released.” But the person ultimately identified as responsible for hundreds of arsons, Thomas Sweatt, would not be arrested until April 2005. What did investigators know? What clues were they following? And how did the investigation finally come together? Discover the story in my book: 📖 Thomas Sweatt: Inside the Mind of DC’s Most Notorious Arsonist The investigation was about much more than finding a face. It was about stopping the next fire. 🌐 ThomasSweattBook.com #ThomasSweatt #TrueCrime #SerialArsonist #ArsonInvestigation #TrueCrimeBooks by @jonriffe
THREE PEOPLE INJURED. A SIX-YEAR-OLD CHILD. AND A DISTURBING CONNECTION TO OTHER FIRES. On February 14, 2004, an early-morning arson fire broke out at the Blair Park Garden Apartments in Silver Spring, Maryland. Three members of the same family—a 6-year-old girl and two women, ages 19 and 43—were hospitalized for smoke inhalation. Firefighters rescued residents from the smoke-filled building, while others were forced to jump from upper floors to escape. The following day, The Washington Post reported that investigators were examining possible connections between this fire and a series of suspicious fires across Washington, DC, and Prince George’s County. What investigators were beginning to uncover was part of a much larger story involving Thomas Sweatt, one of America’s most prolific serial arsonists. #ThomasSweatt #TrueCrime #SerialArsonist #FireInvestigation #ArsonInvestigation by @jonriffe
JUNE 5, 2003. WASHINGTON, DC. An 86-year-old grandmother. Two grandchildren. A fire deliberately set on the front porch. Only two survived. Lou Edna Jones died inside the home where she had lived for approximately half a century. Her grandchildren escaped through an upstairs window. The next morning, her death made the pages of The Washington Post. What appeared to be another horrific arson was connected to something far more disturbing: the decades-long crimes of Thomas Sweatt. 🔥 Hundreds of fires. 💔 Families devastated. ⚖️ A serial arsonist eventually brought to justice. My book, Thomas Sweatt: Inside the Mind of DC’s Most Notorious Arsonist, tells the story behind the crimes and the people whose lives were forever changed. The victims deserve to be remembered—not just the man responsible. 📚 ThomasSweattBook.com #ThomasSweatt #TrueCrimeCommunity #ArsonInvestigation #FireInvestigation #TrueCrimeBooks by @jonriffe
