DRAG MUSICAL SPECTACULAR NIGHT / AUSTIN'S 1 YEAR DRAGIVERSARY

SAPPY ASS CAPTION BELOW

So I completely forgot to tell anyone that not only was this was my solo hosting/producing debut, but also my one-year dragiversary show.

I told Wysteria beforehand that I would be happy if we got just a few tables full -- and then 2 hours later we performed to a FULL bar of friends and strangers who sang and danced with us all night long. It was all I'd hoped for and more.

There was camp, seduction, abdurdity, politics, and the entire night was so utterly sincere. That's exactly what I hope Austin Paradise has been for his first year of existence, and what I want him to be in the coming years.

Enormous thank you to @mx.caligula , @josephine.jay.drag , @lezzz_ismoore , and @wysteriaroot for helping me put this together and being so incredible to work with, to @vexscandal for the amazing poster, and @mitchellplunkettphoto for the INCREDIBLE photos you're seeing right now, and @the.opalessence for being my stand-in Brad. Can you believe they knew Rocky Horror?

Year 2 of Austin will be weirder, nastier, and more political. I hope to incorporate other skills into my drag, to host/produce more and more shows that highlight the diverse cast of the Ottawa drag world, and to uplift BIPOC and trans performers in particular.

You've seen nothing like us and we are just getting started <3

Love,
Austin

Introducing our first cast member, the incredible @josephine.jay.drag 🤍 With 3 years of performing under her belt, Joséphine is known for her vintage aesthetic, tight lip syncing, silly gags and all-around campiness. She’s like a middle-schooler’s cartoon drawing of their mom and the mold in your grandma’s cake mascara from the 1920s. Catch her and the rest of the cast on October 25 at The Morning After Show at @breadbyus cafe and bakery. Tickets are on sale NOW and link is in my bio 🤍 by @josephine.jay.drag

💎 3 YEARS OF JOSÉPHINE JAY 💎

Can you BELIEVE it's been 3 whole years??? I don't think I could possibly put into words the gratitude for all the love, support, and friendship I've collected over 3 years of performing as Joséphine. From supporting friends on the NAC stage, to winning Professional Night twice in a row, to travelling to Kingston to entertain entirely different crowds of people, to spreading myself across as many stages as I can, to protests, to cabarets, to bars, to clubs, to photoshoots, to festivals, I could never express enough love to encompass everything I've experienced.

I've been thinking a lot over the last few days, about my drag, and why I'm doing it. I'll be honest that it's really hard sometimes. It's because of my drag that I'm poor, constantly busy, and I'm a giant ball of stress and energy. But I wouldn't trade one second of it for the world. Drag has taught me how to love myself, how to love others, how to hold myself in my community, how to give back, and it has made me who I am today.

Since I was a little autistic kid I've turned to art to give me purpose, and to comfort me in hard times. Knowing that I can make something that makes someone's day better- even if it's just mine- makes every sore muscle, shed tear, hour in therapy, everything, worth it.

As long as there are stages to step across, music to perform, and crowds to entertain, I hope to be a part of the action. Thank you Ottawa + valley for having me. I hope you'll continue to tune in to watch me grow and see the little acts I'm cooking up.

- JJ 💕

First time in drag in public- Pride 2022 at T's Pub.

Début at LO Open Stage, hosted by @missbaeroot and @yetithedragqueen , Sept. 28, 2023.

My first repeat number, and still a favourite of mine. I was convinced I would just be doing swing music and alternative rock for the first few months of performing. :P

A musical showcase by @wysteriaroot , one of my first booked shows.

My birthday show in June 2025. We raised just over $100 for relief in Gaza.

@morganmorbid Halloween show in October 2024

Professional Night alumni show, one of my favourite numbers I've done, in one of my favourite dresses.
