A garage designed to feel less like a showroom and more like a place you actually want to spend time.

This conceptual design at Finish Line Auto Club blends mid-century modern warmth with an industrial edge, shaped around a collector’s love of vintage Porsche 911s, classic Land Rovers, and Indian and Triumph motorcycles.

Layered graphics, herringbone porcelain floors, wood slat walls, a steel-and-glass wine room, and a mezzanine bar create a space that feels relaxed, personal, and quietly special. Editorial-worthy, yet effortless.
Because the best collector garages don’t try too hard. They feel lived in.

What an incredible opportunity this was to work with MotorTrend and Porsche! I was invited as a guest designer to test out the new Macan Turbo EV, chat with Ed Loh about my experience with garage design and finally design my one of one vehicle! To be honest, I am still in awe that this happened.

It was an absolute pleasure working with/getting to know these fine folks:

What is BDNY, and why is a garage designer going?

BDNY is Boutique Design New York, the show where the hospitality world brings out its best work: the newest finishes, the smartest seating, the lighting and cabinetry techniques you haven’t seen yet. It’s where the people who build boutique hotels go to see what’s possible.

So why am I going? Because a boutique hotel and a collector’s garage are the same idea in two different buildings.

Think about what a great hotel does. You walk in and the outside world drops away. The materials feel considered, the light is flattering, the chair is the one you didn’t want to leave. It’s a place built entirely for pleasure and escape.

That’s exactly what I’m building when I design a garage. A collector’s garage isn’t storage. It’s the place you go to decompress, pour something, and sit with the machines you love. Luxury and escape, with a V8 🏁 in the room. Hosted, not parked.

I’m not chasing what’s trendy. I’m chasing what’s best: the finishes, materials, and craftsmanship that make a space feel like it was built to last. BDNY is where the latest and greatest lives, and I’m pointing Joyride east in November to walk the floor, meet the people making it, and bring home what belongs in your garage.

Industry reps and designer friends: headed to BDNY? Flag me down. Let’s walk the floor together.

Behind every refined space is a raw moment of creation. Anything for the shot, anything for the interior.✨

Every finished space has a story that rarely makes it into the final photograph.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at styling and documenting one of my latest luxury garage interiors at Finish Line Auto Club. It’s the final layer of the design process, where every detail is refined until the space feels as intentional on camera as it does in person.

A huge thank you to Hugo Landa Garcia for capturing the finished space so beautifully, and to Jamie Howren for documenting the behind-the-scenes moments that made this video possible.

THE CARPORT WAS RIGHT ALL ALONG

We spent decades deciding the carport was dated. Turns out it was smarter than the garage that replaced it — especially if you’ve got a collection and a daily driver fighting over the same square footage.

Forty grays on the deck. Not one of them is Slate Grey 6601. This is going to take a while.

Some men chase the redline. The lucky ones built a place to bring it home to. Happy Father’s Day to the fathers who built a life — and a space — around the things that move them.

If you caught my stories last week, you saw me ask: what if the man cave were an actual cave?

Then I went down a rabbit hole — literally — and this is what came out.

A golf simulator built into the rock. A racing sim tucked into its own grotto, lit only by the glow of the track.

A sauna behind glass, steam rising a few feet from a row of 911s.

These are concept renders, for now. The possibilities are endless.

This one’s not for the faint of heart. The right collector will know who they are.

A 12-foot olive tree walks into a garage.

No punchline. Just the most luxurious thing in the room that isn’t a car.

Because a great collector space isn’t about the machines alone — it’s about the world you build around them. Soften the steel. Warm the concrete. Give the eye somewhere to breathe.
The cars are the protagonists. Everything else is set design.

Every great experiential car space starts the same way — with a vision, and someone thinking three steps ahead about how it all comes together.

That’s the work.

At Joyride Garage Design, I partner with collectors to shape environments designed with the same intention as the cars going into them. I develop the layout, curate the materials, design custom elements, source through trusted trade partners, and manage procurement and installation so the vision moves cleanly from concept to completion.

The result is a space that feels inevitable. Like it couldn’t have been anything else.

That’s not luck. That’s design. by @joyridegaragedesign

Hunt and Lauda, 1976. One raced on instinct. The other on arithmetic. They were roommates before they were rivals, and rivals before they were legends. The best competition doesn’t come from someone who wants to beat you — it comes from someone who understands exactly what it costs to win.
