My beautiful Mama,
Today, as I sit beside you at the doctor’s office, I look at you and I am reminded of just how strong you truly are.
Every day, every month, every year, you continue to fight a battle that so many people cannot see. Dementia has brought darkness into parts of your world. It has taken away words, memories, and so many of the things that once came easily to you. And yet, through it all, you remain calm. You remain gentle. You remain strong. Mama, even when you cannot put the words together, you look at me with those beautiful eyes and you smile, and that smile is a gift. A blessing. Mama, I want you to know that I have dedicated my life to caring for you. I will stand beside you through every appointment, every difficult day, every quiet moment, and every uncertain tomorrow. I will make sure you are cared for, protected, respected, and surrounded by love. With the Lord’s blessing, I pray that He continues to cover you with His peace, give you strength, and hold you close. I pray that He gives me the wisdom, patience, and strength to continue caring for you with the unconditional love you deserve. Love always your son.

Every year that passes, I find myself reflecting more deeply on my life and how far I’ve come.

From a lost soul to a blessed soul, I now live life with purpose, drive, faith, and determination. The maturity I have gained as a man is something I am truly proud of, and I thank the Lord for placing me on a path that built me, tested me, broke me, and gave me the strength to rise again and keep moving forward.

In this life, I play many roles. I am a family man, a son, a brother, a husband, a friend, an athlete, and a coach. But most importantly, when I look in the mirror today, I can honestly say I am proud of the man I have become.

They say we eventually become more like our parents, and I now understand that truth. I wake up early, reflect, pray, and give thanks to God for another blessed day. I am learning to appreciate time, life, and every moment as it comes and goes.

Thank you, Lord, for everything you have given me. I understand now that I had to go through hell to find the light. The light that led me to peace, purpose, and my own piece of heaven.

ABBA museum was awesome. We fell in love with their music at a very young age. This is one place we wanted to visit during our time in Sweden 🇸🇪. @abba @ceryscookie @_gilliancook #abba #abbamuseum #stockholm #sweden by @juancarlosobando_74

This has been in the works for a while, and now it is official. Jay West and I are teaming up and going all in for the HYROX Pro Doubles AG50–54 division title.

First order of business: qualify in Vancouver.
Then, the goal is HYROX Hong Kong 2027.

Two athletes. One mission. Full commitment. We know the work ahead, and we are ready to earn every step of it. Let’s go.

There was a time when running was taken away from me.

A posterior tibialis injury — what most people know as shin splints put me out for almost a year. The recovery was not easy. Physically, it tested me. Mentally, it broke me down. There were days where it felt like the storm was never going to clear.

This picture reminds me of the pain, the frustration, the waiting, the doubt, but also the strength that was being built in silence.

With the Lord’s help, I started to see the silver lining. Some would call it a blessing in disguise. I learned more about my body, my injury, and the recovery process. I learned that I am human. I am not perfect. And I learned that obstacles do not define us, but how we respond to them does.

Now, every run is a blessing. Every training session is a blessing. Every time my feet touch the floor and I take a deep breath, I am reminded to be grateful.

When the light dims, when the storm hovers over you, when you feel overwhelmed and scared, keep moving forward.

Never quit on yourself.

Some people come into your life by chance. Others come into your life exactly when you need them. I met Jesse Bruce back in 2012 at the O Course, during a time in my life when I was lost, struggling, and trying to find my way. I had no idea that day would introduce me to someone who would become one of my closest friends.

From the moment I met Jesse, I was inspired by his drive, grit, commitment, and heart. He introduced me to OCR and a community that changed my life. From the time he started Time for War Fitness all the way to One Academy, I’ve watched him build from the ground up, pouring everything he had into it helping and inspiring others.

Jesse is truly one of a kind, a kind soul, a fierce competitor, and a man whose energy has touched so many people.

These photos tell a story, and I am beyond proud of the man he has become and everything he has accomplished.

His book, The Will to Endure, is out now on Amazon. Go support Jesse Bruce and pick up your copy.

Proud of you, brother. Thank you for your friendship.

Saturday at HYROX Ottawa, I had the honour of competing in Mixed Doubles with my partner, Amber Tait.

We went into this race with a plan. We talked through it, trained for it, visualized it, and showed up ready to execute. This was our first race together, and we were excited, focused, and ready to leave everything on the floor.
And that is exactly what we did.

We raced hard. We pushed. We supported each other through every station, every run, every tough moment. We gave it everything we had.

But just like life, race day does not always unfold exactly the way you imagined. And that is okay. Because every race teaches you something. You learn what worked. You learn what did not. You learn where you are strong, where you need to grow, and what you are capable of when things get hard.

One thing I know for sure: we are not done.

We will come back. We will race together again. And we will achieve the goal we set for ourselves.

Amber, thank you, my dear friend. This was an incredible experience, and I am truly grateful we got to share it together. Proud of what we did.

Every spring, this rose rises again.

My mother planted it about 10 years ago, before she was diagnosed with dementia. Over time, as the disease took more from her, she was no longer able to water it, care for it, or watch over it the way she once did. And yet, somehow, this beautiful flower still comes back.

Today, my beautiful mother can no longer move without support, but this rose continues to stand tall, bright, strong, and full of life. Every year, it reminds me of her strength, her love, and how precious life truly is.

There are no words big enough to express what a mother means. The love of a mother is sacred. It shapes you, protects you, teaches you, and stays with you forever.

My life’s mission is to care for my mother, to be her voice, and to honour the love she gave me. My mission is to protect and love my family, to be the best son, husband, and human being I can be.

This rose is more than a flower.
It is a reminder.
It is love.
It is my mother.

Thank you, mami.

Recovery is where the real progress happens. 💪
Train hard. Recover harder.

Sleep, mobility, and proper rest are just as important as the workout itself.

Being sidelined with an injury is a different kind of hard.
One day you’re in your routine, feeling strong and the next, you’re watching everyone train while you’re stuck “taking it easy.”
The cons are real:
You lose momentum. Your mood dips. Your confidence wobbles. Your mind starts spiraling “Am I falling behind?”, Will I lose everything I built? What if it happens again? But here’s the part people don’t talk about enough…

There are pros, too, if you choose to use them.
Injury forces you to slow down and get honest.
It exposes weak links. It makes you rebuild the foundation. It teaches patience, discipline, and grit in a new way. And yes, it can mess with your mental health, because training is part of your identity, and getting injured can feel personal.
So, my mindset is staying calm, determined, and focused. Do the rehab. Sleep. Fuel. Strengthen. Don’t rush the comeback. If I recover properly, I already know the result. #AthleteMindset #RecoveryIsTraining #RunningInjury #ShinSplints #TrustTheProcess by @juancarlosobando_74
