POSTS STORIES REELS

I didn’t think my day was going to go the way it did. I left the woods last night with my head hanging because I put an arrow right in the middle of his back (straight down) with no pass through. I watched him bolt over a fence and into the deep timber and lost sight of him.

Somehow I managed to not even try to find the first drop of blood because I just knew it’d turn into a 72 hour nightmare of bumping him into oblivion. Jordan Jones said he was dead 75 yards away. I told him that the buck was still going pretty fast when he passed that mark. Long night of worry and replaying the memory.

This morning the radar showed the stupidest little red spot of thunderstorm headed right for me and visions of diluted and washed out blood trails danced in my head. Needless to say expectations were not high and I was about to call a dog before I even started. About 15 steps past the fence and there it was, a big white belly.

I spent a few minutes with him and had another buck circling, trying to work the scrape he died on top of before some FaceTime calls and a satchel pick to tease the group chat. Took the time to take these nice pics instead of rushing things and just enjoyed it all.

I got him cleaned up and headed to Old Barn Taxidermy where I was treated like one of their favorite customers despite the volume of work they do. I can’t say enough good things about that operation and it’s well worth the drive.

Happy to have that weight off my shoulders and now I’m looking forward to Devin Leonard and the rest of Middle of the Map crew showing up this weekend. Couldn’t have asked for a better day and am so grateful for the hunting community that Working Class Bowhunter Podcast has made me a part of. by @juddmccullum

It is go time. Get out there and find some native seed for your yard! It's that time of year when most of the species on the prairie or the woodland edges are going to seed and drying out. Now is a great time to get out there and grab a handful.

Make sure you don't put it in plastic bags. It needs to be in bags that can breathe and won't hold moisture, which won't create mold and won't kill the germ in the seed. It's super easy.

Most of these species that you're going to find, you can store for at least one winter, but I recommend getting them gathered up and then getting them broadcast this November or December. It's still got some precipitation and some wind to drive it down to soil contact. Make sure your turf's dead or your pasture grasses are dead first, and have a blast. by @juddmccullum
