This Chalice Wretched is out in the world today! 🖤

To celebrate, I wanted to share some of the amazing artwork included in the final edition. The chalice section breaks are by the wonderful @marta.intotheforest and the Act One, Two, and Three illustrations are by @alicecaoillustration 🖤

I knew when I was writing this book that I wanted to collaborate with some artists I really admire and I could think of no one better to deliver on the gothic vibes than Marta and Alice.

So here it is, to those long buried, which turned out to be a dedication to myself at times writing this in the throes of dealing with an autoimmune disease. I hope you enjoy this dark, gothic tale of feminine rage and vampiric obsession 🖤

Sharing one of my all-time favorite indie romantasy series today! Radiance is one of my favorite books ever and it made me fall in love with Grace Draven’s writing.

This series is a truly original story and really brings something fresh to the fantasy romance genre. Brishen and Ildiko have the sweetest bond and I loved reading about their marriage and how they come to understand their new world together. I definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for a change of pace from popular tropes and want something that feels unique, one of a kind, and classically romantic.

I’m on a quest to share some of my favorite indie books, and this marks the second installment of the series. Check out my previous posts to see my review of Jean Swan’s The Book of Origins!

Inspired by the stories of Lilith, Elizabeth Báthory, and Carmilla…

In this dark and surreal novella, Silmarin is a sibyl, one of an order of nine prophetesses led by the cold and reclusive Matron Isolde. That is, until the Matron’s sudden death throws their monotonous existence into upheaval. Isolated in their mountain temple, the sibyls look to their blessed Well for answers, only to find it silent, or else spilling over with a malign ichor. It is only the beginning of strange occurrences around the temple that will soon transform what Silmarin thinks she knows about her order, herself, and her desires.

A tale of blood curses, survival, feminine rage, and obsession and love beyond death, This Chalice Wretched explores the feminine in horror.

the kind of vibes that went in to writing Chalice 🖤🙂‍↕️

This Chalice Wretched is a gothic, surreal novella for lovers of vampire love interests with lots of trauma, remote castles and eerie atmosphere, morally gray characters, and stories of loss, revenge, and rebirth. An order of prophetesses is left picking up the pieces after the death of their Matron—what follows is a sapphic and bloody tale about what it means to be the villain.

It releases on November 3rd and you can preorder it on Amazon now! 💃🏼

THE BOOK OF ORIGINS 🍊

Now, I’ve already posted before about @jeanswanauthor’s wonderful epic fantasy debut, The Book of Origins, but I’ve been really thinking lately about spotlighting some unsung indie books because there are true gems out there that don’t get nearly the praise they deserve on bookish social media, and The Book of Origins is definitely one of those! I want to help more readers find those indie books. So, when I took this even cooler photo of Jean’s book the other day, I knew there was no better starting place for this series than this book.

Enter an immersive world of assassins, secretive empires, and political intrigue…

Asrah, Regar, and Damarion are dakir, trained to gather information and, other times, to kill for the theocratic Apex. The Book of Origins is sweeping in its scale, complex and deeply layered, with an engrossing world you can get lost in.

I truly am amazed by what Swan has created with this book. A full and immersive world. Deeply woven character arcs. Everything about this novel is a slow burn in the best way. The politics, the long scope the book takes, the way you grow with the characters to learn what made them who they are. There is a relentless examination of themes like friendship, faith, indoctrination, and freedom. I also really enjoyed the flashback structure—I love getting to unravel a story and Swan trusts her readers to follow. Such a delight.

If you’re a fan of writers like Robin Hobb and N.K. Jemisin, definitely check this one out! 🧡

Spotlight on Sudanese literature ❤️

Perhaps some of my longtime friends on here remember this post from my previous page, but it’s been several months now since my I began learning about what’s happening in Sudan and, in tandem with that, picking up more Sudanese literature as recommended to me by my dear friend Brie. I am currently reading Season of Migration to the North and I honestly can’t remember when a book last touched me this deeply. Translated from the original Arabic, it tells the story of the narrator’s return to Sudan, and then bifurcates into an interwoven tale with the introduction of another man in his village, Mustafa, and his story of his own travels out of Sudan, to London, years ago. This book has been one of those life-altering reads for me, and I’d recommend it to anyone as necessary reading for life.

Since I last posted, however, the humanitarian crisis in Sudan remains dire. It is the largest displacement crisis in the world right now. I encourage you to learn more from the profiles I’ll be tagging below and to pick up some works by Sudanese authors as well. No one in this world is free until everyone is. ❤️

This is why it’s important to make bad stuff at the beginning of a hobby or craft so you can go back and look at how you’ve improved 🥹💜 #bookbinding by @juliagreenshaw
