We had nothing, but we had everything, because we had each other. Grandpa Lu was the kindest person in the world. He taught me how to think always of others and made sure no one was never hungry cold or alone. He always ate last to make sure my belly was always full. He carried me 5 flights of stairs every single day winter, spring, fall, summer until I could walk. I was not easy to raise, but he loved me unconditionally. Love you and miss you so much. Rest in peace, in the next world, I’ll see you again. 🕊️🌿 by @juliaqli
My love 🌴❤️ by @juliaqli
When I met Callie, I knew our futures were destined to intersect. She is brilliant, hard working, and importantly - humble and kind. Like a breath of fresh air. As fellow artists will understand, creating is not a choice, it’s an absolute must to stay true to ourselves and sane throughout life. As a writer, Callie deeply understands and respects the artist process. Partnering with @calliegjones has been a dream.

September 15, we’ll be opening COL Gallery @colgallery.co, forging our own path amongst giants. While we know we have a long road ahead of us, we’re clear on being an artist-first gallery grounded in mutual respect. We’re excited to work with artists with powerful stories to tell and connecting them with those who genuinely want to be part of their journeys. We’re approaching this with open hearts, and look forward to working with collectors, gallerists, curators and museums that believe art brings us together, and makes us better.

As we celebrate the gallery’s third anniversary, we want to thank our artists, our collectors near and far, and everyone who has taken time to visit our space or send an encouraging note. It feels particularly fitting to mark this anniversary with Antwoine Washington’s exhibition “Life Be Lifing.” Since opening the gallery, our mission has been to center artists with powerful stories to tell and Antwoine embodies this ethos. His paintings honor his community and the beauty of everyday life, in the tradition of the artists he claims as forebears: Elizabeth Catlett, Jacob Lawrence, and Ernie Barnes, whose exuberant scenes of Black life he first discovered as a child. Antwoine’s people are never archetypes. They are somebody’s family. Thank you all for being part of COL! We’re so grateful for our growing gallery family and we look forward to many more years of working with Antwoine and artists like him. — “Antwoine Washington: Life Be Lifing” on view through November 6th 📸 : @shaun.roberts.photo by @juliaqli
