✨ My final performance as Artist in Residence at @brooklynbotanic is this weekend! Join us on Saturday and Sunday September 20th and 21st from 2-3pm. The show is free with garden admission, and a reminder that there are free community tickets if admission cost is a barrier to entry 🌱

Cantos Para La Tierra, Songs for the Land is a song cycle that looks lovingly and honestly at our relationship with the land and the many beings who make our lives possible. These songs remind us that our grief is necessary and connected to our call to care for what we love. As we grieve the control, extraction, and theft inscribed in everything from the lands we walk on to our industrial food system, we also remember the agency we have to learn from the plants, seeds, and pollinators and build reciprocity with each other and with the environment that sustains us. The song cycle takes us through the growing season: from the seeds we plant, the nourishment and habitat they become, and the seeds they gift us in the end. Each seed, the legacy of our relationship.

Grateful to be accompanied by incredible musicians and collaborators:

Divine Fellowship Gratitude Post!!

Back in 2024, @cenizitas__ nominated me for the Divine fellowship, a program started by @publicassistants and @eurekapressny to support, activate, and engage local, QTBIPOC artists whose work gives way to social change through community focuses. It was my first artist residency and I remember a sense of affirmation and excitement.

In addition to supporting us with resources to make our work and access to Eureka’s print studio to experiment with print media, one of my favorite things was getting to connect with a cohort of artists who I love and admire so much.

In August of this year we got to spend two weeks together in Wabanaki lands known as Maine: resting, creating, connecting. Breathing clean air, swimming in the waters of lake Megunticook, eating local fresh food, having the time to rest and connect with our creative practices.

I’m excited to share the songs that emerged as I reconnected with the joy of my process during this time, the COLORING BOOK for my upcoming album I was able to make and print with the help of Eureka Press, and, for now, these cute pictures of us having a time!!

Thank you, thank you Public Assistants, Eureka and the Center for Artistic Activism for dreaming up a fellowship that challenges the traditional gatekeeping of most artistic opportunities, and that supports artists in a way that supports our process over any outcome 💗 by @juliarochanava
