The only thing more powerful than hate is love - @badbunnypr 💔 Sending big love to San Diego and to our Muslim friends everywhere 🫂 We don’t have to live like this ❤️ by @juliasparkman
MEET THE TEAM: Yoga sparked Julia’s connection to the Sacred/Oneness/Divine Unity and she has spent the last two decades exploring the “various paths up the mountain” - as Ram Dass would say. As a facilitator, Julia weaves form and formless - exploring the physical, mental, emotional, and energetic planes! ✨ Julia is now offering 1:1 Rest + Reiki Sessions and Spiritual Companionship Sessions in Sojourn’s Healing Room. You can also join her every Friday at 10:30am for Rest + Reiki in the Sojourn Sanctuary. 🔗 Link in Bio to book a 1:1 healing session! by @juliasparkman
I posted this video on my stories a couple of days ago with a different song (Crime Mob’s 2004, Knuck If You Buck, will be a forever classic - but I decided this song was more fitting for a permanent grid spot 🙇‍♀️). Anywho, I received over 30 messages from women being like “wow!”, “I need to do this…”, “holy shit”. So I am here to say: I love teaching my weekly Rest + Reiki class and I plan to continue to teach it as long as @sojournsandiego will have me. AND - I believe that now more than ever - women need opportunities to explore their strength and power. We - as women - need to learn how to get loud, take up space, and channel our strength so it can be steady and impactful versus chaotic and ineffective. Weekly, I hear mom’s lamenting over their kids’ schedules and I am here to say: take your kids out of one of their sports/activities and SIGN YOUR SELF UP FOR SOMETHING. I am certain that your child will be better served by a Mom living in their wholeness than another class/practice. The World needs women (and particularly Moms) who are on fire and ready to go🔥 Self care is way more than baths and massages and walk and talks. Self care is learning to stay RESOURCED and intrinsically mused. May this post encourage you to show up for yourself (and not f*ck with me 🙃). This one’s for the Matriarchy 🕊️ #WomenEmpowerment #WomenSupportingWomen #TimeIsNow by @juliasparkman
February Favorites 🪄 Home hangs + updates, forever evolving my homemade burrito, some fun ones of the kids, Sloan’s drawing of a “boy girl” - “because everyone is a little of both”, selfies because International Women’s Day😉, and a super cool hawk that keeps visiting 🪽 by @juliasparkman
At the beginning of the year, @jacqbry texted me out of the blue and asked: “Would you consider yourself a c^nnabis patient?” My response: Hmmmmm Maybe yes Plants of all kinds are my medicine so it felt resonate… From there, we scheduled a call so she could interview me for a short essay. We casually chatted for about 15 minutes… I was in South Park walking the block around @therosesouthpark - waiting to eat lunch (aka potatoes, iykyk). Jackie is a true wizard and effortlessly summarized my lifelong journey into 350 words. As Jackie wrote, today, my relationship with 🌿 is incredibly intentional. But, it wasn’t always that way… And it’s crazy to think about how something that once landed me in handcuffs now gets me profiled in a magazine. I managed to escape my delinquency with an expunged record - white and class privilege massively benefitted me when I was a kid breaking the law. That said, so many people I know and countless others still face consequences for things that are legal today. So I would like to take this moment to spotlight: @LastPrisonerProject “There but for the grace of God go I” - is a phrase that crosses my mind often… Innumerable causes need our attention right now. Yet, if you freely enjoy our plant friend, I kindly encourage you to pay it forward to others who have not had our same fortune. And I’ll conclude by sharing: I credit 🌿 with catalyzing my postpartum sexual awakening - something I just want more moms to know 🦋 Thank you for being an absolute genius, Jackie. Grateful to have you as a fellow super stoner 🦹🏽‍♀️ California Friends - find me in print at your fave 🍃 store 🏪 by @juliasparkman
We recorded EP 08: Back On the Horse last week - before the unfolding of the most recent current events. We open with some background on why we took our break and how we plan to pave our own path with DEEPER by DESIGN. In my own words: I am living as a soft-bodied female 🌼 And we enjoyed a few giggles as we recapped a recent blind-dating journey Amanda experienced IRL… Once we shifted to @_amandaclement’s career on Broadway, things got real. Content Warning: In the episode, I reference sexual violence in a non-graphic way. And I acknowledge how demoralizing it is to live in a World that tolerates the perpetual abuse of females. And in the same breath, I am not going to let skeezy dudes keep me from expanding into this precious life 🕊️ I lost count of how many times I said the word reclamation - and that is my work — it’s a huge peace (😉) of the social justice puzzle that I have missed for many years. More on that soon 🫂 Be the change you wish to see 🪽 full conversation available now. 🌀 Cover Image: Hands and Horse Skull - Georgia O’Keeffee #deeperbydesign by @juliasparkman
Yesterday, our beloved Silas turned FOUR! Last year, I never made a birthday post for Silas because a horrific global event happened on his birthday. On Saturday AM, when I woke up to the news, I told several people: I will never stop crying when things like this happen. I will never normalize these types of tragedies. It felt purely dystopian to decorate for his party as I processed my tax dollars - my karma - unalivening other people’s children. It’s hard for me to access joy as I witness the carnage of pitiful men’s actions. Yet, Mothering Silas this past year has helped build my capacity to hold duality. Silas holds so many contradictions in his small body - loving him has helped me to learn how to hold two opposing things at the same time. Silas is a daredevil and timid - he was too afraid to ride the rollercoasters or any of the bigger rides yesterday at Legoland - - and he spent the car ride home talking about how “the vehicle he is going to get when he grows up is a motorcycle.” Silas has received some type of board for every birthday since he could walk - he wants to charge. And, I still hold him for at least two waking hours each day (I promise you this is not exaggerated). Witnessing Silas be so multifaceted has given me permission to brighten my light as I hold the metaphorical dark. I see raising Silas from a white boy into a white man as one of the greatest responsibilities of my lifetime. And my prayers keep telling me to love him so he can go out into the World and know how to love you. I am so wildly grateful for my bagel-loving, spidey-obsessed, cuddle-king. May Silas inspire you to embrace his double-pisces energy and be fluid on the spectrum and to live outside of the binary. Please enjoy some of my favorite Si-Guy snaps from his last spin ☀️ by @juliasparkman
A few excerpts from a story I shared today about how my experience growing up feeling like an outsider has prepared me for a life beating to my own drum 🥁 You know where to find the full essay 🪽Thank you for reading ❤️ #writersofig #writersofinstagram by @juliasparkman
“Now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.” - John Steinbeck I saw this John Steinbeck quote the other day and it gave me all the feels. In my early 30s, I was surprised to learn that I was a perfectionist - before that, I just thought I was just super good at everything 🤡 My whole life, I have lived by an all or nothing attitude. I really believed Ricky Bobby when he said: “if you ain’t first, you’re last.” The Year of the Snake isn’t over yet and I am surrendering my perfectionist tendency within this final shed 🐍 “Now that you don’t have to be perfect, you can be good.” - I have been deep in the Romantasy genre the last couple of years… Nevertheless, when I finish the current book I am reading (Kingdom of Fire, IYKYK), I am going to take a little break to read East of Eden, the book where this quote is found… Have you read it? Be good to yourself and to others 🌀 #BooksOfIG #Affirmations #Mantra #BEgood Background Images via Pinterest 🌿 by @juliasparkman
January 2026 rewind 🌀 the second image is a list I wrote after reflecting on my 10 year dating anniversary with Alex. I have a new essay out today and here is the main take away: Perfection is not required of us/me 🫂 Happy February, Happy Full Moon in Leo, Happy Imbolc 🌱 by @juliasparkman
I am finishing up this Sunday’s essay and after having a few conversations with friends - this sentence wanted to be shared today: Humanity needs my imperfect participation. Don’t let perfection stop you from participating today - you don’t have to get it “right” to show up. I also want to throw it up for small, local businesses - some businesses can’t afford to close today… I highly urge you to continue to support your favorite local businesses - with cash if they will let you - particularly the ones who are donating a portion of their proceeds to the cause. Small businesses have it tough and I don’t want to punish them today because corporations suck. Today is a day of solidarity. AND humanity needs us to align our values with our actions and our buying power EVERY SINGLE DAY. Start small and build overtime. How are YOU using your personal agency to support collective care and empowerment today? #ICEOUT #CommunityCare #ShopLocal #ShopSmall by @juliasparkman
