A map drawing on different bodies of knowledge—ecological, social, and infrastructural— that challenges the visual representation of the Jordan River, which often remains fixed in time and imagination. 🎤 Meet the speakers Episode 3/5 VKKS × Manazir ─── Jumanah Abbas: "Activating New Forms of Documentation and Critical Spatial Imagination: The Case of Shu'un Filastiniyya" 📍Geneva 📅 September 8, 2026 A magazine is never just a magazine. Palestinian Affairs (Shu'un Filastiniyya), published from Beirut by the Palestinian Research Center, was a living diasporic archive - fragile, mobile, clandestine. A space where Ghassan Kanafani, Elias Khoury, Mahmoud Darwish made voices heard that were threatened by censorship and erasure. But there's more. Its covers - designed by Tamam Al Akhal, an artist from Jaffa - are not illustrations. They are drawn architectures. Sections of Palestinian houses seen from inside and outside. Doors, facades, inhabited lives. Images that document but above all imagine. Jumanah Abbas maps these covers not as a closed past, but as potential archival trajectories. Portals to possible futures. She shows how Palestinian Affairs functions as a performative archive: an archive that resists erasure, negotiates fragmented histories, reinvents spatial belonging. The stakes? Archives from the MENA region do not simply preserve. They activate. They document differently. They allow Palestinians to still inhabit the houses they were dispossessed of. Jumanah Abbas is a curator and architect. Formerly Associate Curator at the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Project, she has curated numerous shows and international curatorial residency at Singapore Art Museum (2023) and Doha Fire Station (2024) Discover this during the "Archive as Imperative" roundtable organized by Manazir on September 7 in Geneva, as part of the 6th Swiss Congress of Art History. #palestinianarchive #architectureandmemory #tamamalakhal #archiveasresistance by @jumanahabbas_
Save The Date: 100% Sustainable™️ Opens This Thursday. We have all been there. The bamboo toothbrush. The refillable everything. The oat milk. The cold press. The “clean” beauty routine. It feels like doing something. It is supposed to. But one in three sustainability claims lacks independent verification. And that turmeric on the label? It’s there. Just not necessarily in the way you imagined. APRE Art House presents 100% Sustainable™️, an exhibition that examines the promises, contradictions and aspirations surrounding sustainability today. The exhibition explores what happens when ecological virtue becomes cultural currency and what, exactly, we are consuming when we consume it. Preview: 10 September 2026 | 6–9 PM APRE Art House, Colaba, Mumbai by @jumanahabbas_
In memory of Yayoi Kusama Back in 2022, I had the once-in-a-lifetime pleasure of working on her largest public art installation in the region, wrapped more than 200 palms trees with fabrics of infinite dots, and installed more than 10 sculptures at the Museum of Islamic Art Park. I learned so much about her practice that goes far beyond “Instagrammable” moments: Her work was a microscopic lens into life, death, joy, fear, self-obliteration and the cosmos through her infinite dots My favourite moment was when we first finished installing *My Dancing Pumpkin*, and a group of Pakistani men came and danced next to it ✨ by @jumanahabbas_
No grief can surmount the loss of another Palestinian body, or the unhealable sadness at the loss of an influential figure, an artist, activist, father, whose visual language changed the way we see, remember and carry with us the cultural and artistic narratives of Palestine. His images live — and continue to live — in our imagination of homeland and belonging. This weekend I was looking works by @sliman.mansour on the covers of Shu’un Falastinya (Palestinian Affairs), here’s a few: Image 1: Edition 110, 1981 Image 2: Edition 118, 1981 Image 3: Edition 155, 154, 1986 Image 4: Poster for Earth Day, circa 1976 Image 5: Poster for International Women Day, circa 1980 by @jumanahabbas_

Land Keepers brings together voices from across Bilad al-Sham, Lebanon, Syria, and Palestine, tracing ongoing forms of ecological resistance across the Jabal al-Sheikh region, from South Lebanon to the occupied Jawlan and Galilee. Through essays, testimonies, research, and lived histories, the reader reflects on how communities remain rooted in land under ongoing Zionist settler colonialism, militarization, extraction, and ecological destruction imposed across the region. Published with @genderfail Press, the reader is part of EcoRove’s wider Land Keepers project, which also includes a forthcoming documentary film, tapestry works, sonic installations, and large-format drawings exploring ecocide, memory, and collective ecological knowledge across the region. Join us at @peoplesforumnyc for the release gathering and conversation with contributors and collaborators featured throughout the reader. With contributions by Mahdi Sabbagh, Hamza Hamouchene, Public Works, Hussein Chaabane, Hisham Younes, Nadine El-Khoury, Michelle Eid, and Munira Khayyat.
