“When I was approached about a collaboration with Lladró, it was a great honor, and at the same time it made me feel a strong sense of responsibility. I asked myself: If I were to design The Guest, what kind of approach would I take?” — Jun Oson   Born in Aichi and based in Kamakura, Oson’s career bridges commercial powerhouses and international fine art exhibitions across Asia, Europe, and America. Fusing Japanese lacquer aesthetics and Western denim icons, his vision finds a permanent, global home in porcelain. by @junoson

@junoson is a Japanese artist and illustrator known for his unmistakable peanut-shaped characters, bold outlines and flat, vibrant colours. Drawing inspiration from manga, animation and Western pop art, his paintings bring together humans, animals, robots and monsters in strange, often amusing situations. Over the last 20 years, Jun has developed a distinctive cast of characters built around themes of diversity and cultural identity. These characters inhabit worlds where cultural boundaries disappear, with everyday observations and imagined scenarios forming the basis of his paintings. We are honoured to be showing Jun's artwork in our upcoming Halloween group show, ‘Beautiful Monsters.’ Opening 5-8pm Saturday October 31 at Superwow Gallery, Moffat Beach, QLD For exhibition catalogues, please join our newsletter (clickable link in our bio) or superwowgallery.com #junoson #superwowgallery #australiangallery #newcontemporaryart #fineartist by @junoson

I am thrilled to announce my collaboration with Lladró, the luxury Spanish porcelain brand that has been captivating the world since 1953. Together, we created a porcelain figurine based on one of my signature characters, "Scully." The design is inspired by the traditional Japanese aesthetics of Urushi (lacquerware) and Ai (indigo). Thanks to the exceptional craftsmanship of Lladró's artisans, the piece features deep, exquisite color tones. Every step of the process—from molding to the finest painted details—was meticulously done by hand. The figurine will be displayed and available for purchase at the Lladró Boutique in Isetan Shinjuku, so please come by to see the incredible detail and texture in person. It is also now available for early purchase on the official online store! #lladro #junoson by @junoson
SHUG SPEAKS — Episode 25: Jun Oson For Episode 25 of SHUG SPEAKS, we catch up with Japanese artist Jun Oson for ten quick-fire questions that take us beyond the work and into the person behind it. From choosing the stability of life as a civil servant in an alternate universe, to Picasso being the first image of an artist planted in his childhood mind. Jun talks A24 films, his love of nature and trail running, the struggle of naming paintings, and why drawing outlines remains the most exhausting part of his process. We also hear about the surreal feeling of his work finding its way into the collection of a British collector, something his younger self could never have imagined — and the contrasting emotions he hopes to create through his paintings: something unfamiliar and surprising, yet strangely comforting at the same time. A little glimpse into the life, influences and working process of Jun Oson. Swipe through to read the full Q&A → #junoson #shugspeaks #shuggallery #japaneseartist #contemporaryartist by @junoson
I’ll be illustrating Dr. Kazumichi Fujii’s column "Tsuchi Baka Ichidaiki" (A Dirt Nerd's Chronicle) in the weekly magazine Weekly Bunshun! Dr. Fujii is a soil scientist, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what unique angles he’ll take in his column. For the illustrations, I’ll be using my relaxed, loose-line style—the kind I occasionally post in my mini comics. And yes, that means a deadline every single week! Please check out Weekly Bunshun! #週刊文春 #藤井一至 #junoson by @junoson
