Grateful for the opportunity to participate in BBIF’s Forward to 40: Building What’s Next conversation.

A special thank you to Jasmine Gebon, MBA for the invitation and to Ray Gilley and the entire BBIF team for creating a space for leaders to think deeply about the future of entrepreneurship, access to capital, technology, and economic opportunity.

I’m also grateful to Justice Informed for creating the opportunity for me to contribute, and to Xavier Ramey, CEO of Justice Informed, for moderating a thoughtful and necessary conversation.

It was an honor to share the panel with Havell Rodrigues, who brought important perspective on Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA) and ownership transitions, and Dr. Devona E. G. Williams, whose insights on organizational readiness and execution reinforced an important truth: opportunity means very little if we aren’t prepared to execute when it arrives.

My contribution centered on the intersection of faith, technology, and economic development. As both a pastor and a technology builder, I believe AI is about more than efficiency or adopting the latest tools. It’s about capacity.

How do we use technology to help entrepreneurs and organizations build the systems, knowledge, and capabilities necessary to better serve their communities? How do we ensure that undercapitalized does not also mean under-capable? And how do we help businesses become ready to access and effectively deploy the capital, resources, and opportunities that CDFIs like BBIF provide?

For me, that’s where this work gets exciting.
Technology should expand access to opportunity, not create another barrier to it.

If your organization is thinking about how AI and practical technology can increase capacity, strengthen operations, and create greater impact, I’d love to continue the conversation. by @justiceinformed

What happens when the people shaping the future don’t want to use the old playbook?

Gen Z and Gen Alpha are organizing differently, building identities differently, and trusting institutions a whole lot less.

In the latest episode of What If We?, Kaitlin Funaro sits down with Xavier Ramey, CEO of Justice Informed, and Sean Anderson, Director at RALLY, to unpack what happens when generations collide inside social movements.

Because youth activism isn’t just about bringing “fresh energy” to the table, it might mean rebuilding the table entirely. Are you curious? Are you ready to build?

We are honored to welcome Xavier Ramey, CEO of Justice Informed, as the keynote speaker for the inaugural Legacy Lives Here Luncheon.

Xavier's work challenges communities, institutions, and leaders to think more deeply about what justice requires, not simply in what we say, but in how we build, invest, lead, and share power.

That is exactly the conversation we want to have at Legacy Lives Here.

On August 29, we are bringing together entrepreneurs, executives, philanthropists, civic leaders, and community builders around a bigger question:

What are we willing to build today that will still matter generations from now?

Legacy is more than what we leave behind.
It is the businesses we grow.
The institutions we strengthen.
The capital we move.
The leaders we develop.
And the communities we choose to invest in, together.

Xavier brings a powerful voice to this conversation, grounded in justice, economic equity, institutional change, and the responsibility we each carry to help shape what comes next.

This will not simply be a keynote.

It will be a call to think bigger about ownership, power, community, and the legacy we are building together.

The evolution of workplace leadership requires us to understand just how relational they are. We want them to be binary communities where data gives us everything we need. Relationships give us what matters most. Workplaces aren’t (and shouldn’t be treated like) home environments or community volunteer projects, but where leadership is the key currency and the mission is collective and not situational or personal (I.e. the family gotta grow together, the community gotta heal together, the workplace gotta produce together), the lesson is the same: you can’t have community without community and communing.

It takes time, but it pays in the future. It’s a real labor, and it ain’t all about love—it’s also about just hitting the goal you have as a leader to move the work/family/community forward.

Follow for more. Share to give others what you got for yourself.

America failed at integration. It is now declining such that people feel helpless to stop it. Why? Managing impossibilities was never possible where cultural humility and resource equity was required. Thus, MAGA. Paltry DEI investments. Think pieces with zero action behind them. Hamster wheel capitalism. Segregation in diverse cities. Militarism.

How do we change it? How do we stop the fall? Honesty. Humility. Reallocation of resources. Moving from tolerating differences to hastily including differences to seeing that sustaining diversity requires increasing individual EQ as much as it does providing equitable laws and workplace policies.

The state of America is what it is because it reflects the state of heart and emotional resiliency of Americans. And most folks just don’t have it. And when people know they don’t have what it takes to pass a test they can only do three things: quit (MAGA response), bully good people (xenophobia, starting wars), or be humble and curious enough to join in community in accountable ways (USA never tried this).

Why tolerate racism? Because it serves us. Because we are afraid. Because it’s our identity. Because exploring “why” feels like an attack on our very American identity. Some say we are “post racial.” If that were true a Black man like me wouldn’t have much to say on this topic. I wouldn’t have a company that is working to stamp out isms and intolerance of every kind in workplaces across America. The racism of the noose is not the racism of the pen. We live in the time of the pen, the subversive machinations of well planned, structural bigotry and deep prejudice masquerading as pride. It has been my life’s work to make this nation an honest one. And it remains my work as others delegate their baton to future generations.

If this message meant something to you, share it.

For nonprofit leaders: a glimpse into a training on the differences between DEI and antiracism, and how to predict and face the long game—ensuring your advancements in equity end up enshrined into the operational and formational documents of your organization. Wanting equality isn’t going to cut it. You have to know how legislatively move while leveraging moments of executive authority, predicting through data and surveys the amount of traction or resistance you will get, and ensuring the goal is not to move hearts but instead to have your changes documented. That’s where the fight will be.

At @justiceinformed we help organizations and leaders do the work, not acknowledge the power of it, wax poetic about it, imagine it, or build community around talking about the work of equity and the power of equality.

Let me know if I should post the rest. I don’t usually share videos from my training sessions, but this clip is important for people to chew on.

#Share Finance+market gurus won’t share this. They work within the current model while ignoring their contradictions. “If ya can’t beat em, join em” they’d tell you as they post an MLK quote every February. “Here’s how to game taxes so you can be a winner” they say, while continually being upset at the poor conditions in urban public schools where their kids attend. “I started with one Airbnb now I flipped to five and I can retire” they tell you, in a market with increasing affordable housing scarcity. Flip houses, credit schemes, secured credit cards, Mercedes G-Class write offs in business lines…it’s all just building a hyper-poverty state. Managed capital masquerading as philanthropy.

Liberation thinking requires a small yet hard first step: letting go of what you know that works…but it leads to the pain you went through. Poverty doesn’t just happen. It’s designed and maintained through manufactured consent and hopeless compliance. Growing up in the hood, all I knew was pirating. Get money. Get rich. Game the stock market. Workers are suckers. Few try anything different, so how do I know anything else works?

The second step: ya gotta let go of the pain you experienced in poverty, while insisting it doesn’t happen to others by your hand. This is hard. The fear of reliving that pain, our children living that pain, our identity being that pain again—it makes it excusable and right to just go with the flow and do what makes money even if it doesn’t make it right. Blame the drug dealers for the hood, but not the philanthropists? People who give back are good, even if they got that money by taking first…right? I’m not saying we need to have purity tests. I’m saying, you know when you’re no longer dreaming and trying and insisting on a better world for all— just a better life for yourself.

This is why I started @justiceinformed - a consulting firm to help people design their companies and nonprofits to work with liberatory practices. DM us for info.
