the chiba prefecture in japan had one of the heaviest rainfalls in record history yesterday, and i was on the train to the airport passing through it. these shots were captured sometime at 4:30pm so you can kind of tell how dark the skies were then. im just happy that my flight was only slightly delayed since it seems to have gotten even worse towards midnight. i hope everyone in chiba is staying safe 🥹❤️ - shot on ricoh griiix #streetphotography #ricoh #ricohgriiix by @jvmesc_
‘a letter to 2025’ hi, im james, and this is the story of my second year as a photgrapher. 2025 was about chasing. chasing moments, chasing footsteps and chasing life. but ive come to realize that photography is not about chasing. it’s about stopping, observing, and appreciating life around you. as 2026, my goal is to focusing on improving my craft. not worrying about algorithms, social media and just doing what feels right to me. thank you to all of your support for 2026. i read every single one of your comments and all of them light up my day and is the reason why i can continue doing what i love i also want to thank @ricohgrhk , @des_photomag, @unsplash and everyone who featured my work! especially thank you to @artmate_artmate for doing a column for me 🥹 it was an experience to write in chinese for the first time in years i am so excited for the year to come and i hope you all will stick with me on my journey <3 sincerely, james chan - shot on ricoh griiix and fujifilm xt-5 - #streetphotography #minimalistphotography #fujifilm #fujifilmxt5 #madewithlightroom by @jvmesc_
‘and so the earth takes another spin,’ — bit of an essay below: and so with that i completed another lap around the sun 🤞 over the past year i’ve gave myself a target of finding my own style, and taking photos that i can truly call my own. a year after and im happy to announce that im nowhere close to that target yet 👍 over the past year ive been relentlessly experimenting with new compositions, techniques and editing styles that my photo style has changed a lot, but i think its the evidence that im learning. while i don’t think ive reached my goal i am definitely making progress towards it. genuinely enjoying the process in between, the trial and error, figuring out what works and what doesn’t. thank you to everyone who liked, commented and shared my post. thank you to people who came up and say ‘i really like what you’re doing’, it has been my primary motivation to keep going. i am really grateful to have you on this journey with me and I hope you will continue stick along for the ride :) #fujifilm #shotonfujifilm #xt5 #visitjapanhk #visitjapan #lightroom #madewithlighroom by @jvmesc_

‘dream chengdu’ - ‘dream chengdu’ was a collection of photos i took in chengdu during the chinese new years. chengdu left a huge impression on me: its bustling streets, festive energy, and sometimes overwhelming crowds, but above all, a sense of safety, warmth, and belonging. most of the shots were actually taken in one evening, as I almost fainted on the streets (kind of my fault though). as such, the decision to use slow shutter was to translate that sense of movement and chaos into photographs, how quickly everything seemed to flow around me, especially during that flash of vulnerability. - all photos shot on ricoh griiix hdf by @jvmesc_

Edited vs Unedited ✍️ <1. Tokyo, Japan> All of my photos include some sort of editing, especially color grading. Good editing brings out the meaning, emotion, and sentiment in a photo, while bad editing can do the exact opposite. My editing skills are still far from excellent, but I enjoy putting my hands on every photo, tweaking and adjusting until they look perfect to me. For me, that’s what makes photography fun!! :> Here are just a few photos that I’m really happy with and how they’ve turned out over the years, plus a couple of new ones that never saw the light of day until today. Enjoy!! 🏮 #photography #colorgrading #streetphotography Edited vs Unedited ✍️ <2. Narita, Japan> All of my photos include some sort of editing, especially color grading.
