Welcome to the Whangarei beautiful Quarry Gardens in New Zealand and a stunning Frangipani flower that has just fallen onto a beautiful subtropical plant near a sparkling river. I was startled to see this strange almost surrealistic juxtaposition that normally in nature is not possible and I decided that I had to paint it. Exotica seemed to be the perfect title for this startling floral.

Whangarei Quarry Gardens is an absolute subtropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former stone quarry in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland), Aotearoa (New Zealand) and it is definitely worth a lengthy visit.

Villa d’Este - Fountain of Neptune

I was inspired to paint this Villa d’Este - Fountain of Neptune after being dazzled by the sparkling water during a warm Italian afternoon. I believe I have caught the ‘magic’ that I so enjoyed.

I loved visiting the Villa d’Este in Tivoli, with its magnificent palace and garden, it is one of the most remarkable illustrations of Renaissance culture at its most refined. Its innovative design along with the architectural components in the fountain make this a unique example of an Italian 16th-century garden.

Originally designed by Bernini to complete Pirro Ligorio’s plans, the fountain, left unfinished after Ippolito d’Este’s death, featured a cascading design.

In the grotto at the waterfall’s base, the bust of Neptune gives the fountain its name. Various basins at different heights allow water to gently flow into pools on the flat area below.

Spanish Lavender Olé is the title of my latest painting. This aromatic lavender only grows like this during the late New Zealand ubiquitous summer sunshine. 🇳🇿 The bumble bees attracted me to this plant to sketch and finally paint.🎨 I could only capture these stunning colours with my favourite Winsor & Newton paints. @winsorandnewton #winsorandnewton

After swimming for an hour in the turquoise mild Pacific Ocean near Whangarei Heads, I captured this powerful floral. If you are a plant lover New Zealand is definitely worth a lengthy visit.

I’m actually on a massive New Zealand 🇳🇿 mountain about 6000 m. easily above sea level not too far from Queenstown, NZ. Behind was a sheer drop and the wind was definitely howling at times.
