The Morrigan Theatre Co will present Winning Ways, a witty and satirical 1931 comedy by Helen Staunton (pen name of Sybil Le Brocquy), for a limited run at Basile Theatre March 5–14, 2027. Directed by Amy Buell, the production is presented in partnership with IF Theatre’s Spotlight Season. Performances are scheduled for March 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14, 2027, at Basile Theatre. Described as witty, satirical, delightful, and irreverent, Winning Ways brings a sharp, comedic voice from 1931 to a contemporary audience. Auditions for the production will be held October 21 (7:00 PM – 9 PM) and October 24 (10 AM–1 PM), 2026; details are available at https://themorrigantheatreco.com/winning-ways-1931/ “Winning Ways hasn’t been seen since it premiered at the Abbey in Dublin nearly a century ago. On the surface, Winning Ways is a comedy about a family falling apart financially. But underneath, Staunton is making a sharp point about how the Irish Free State’s independence didn’t extend to the women living in it. That mix of humor and critique still lands in 2026.” — Kaitlynn McShea-Jones, Co-Producer of Winning Ways “[Staunton] has a fine sense of the theatre and a satirical genius worthy of cultivation.” — Original review from Daily Express, 1931 With Winning Ways, The Morrigan Theatre Co steps beyond its roots in new play development to bring a rediscovered work to the stage for the first time. by @k.a.mcshea
Happy Labor Day! Mid-August, my ten minute play titled “Going Down” premiered at Indy Fringe in HOOSIER HOLIDAYS, a production of four short plays by four Hoosier-based women playwrights. My play features a man named Dick working on Labor Day. Dick is a middle-aged, recently unemployed accountant who snuck back into his former workplace daily to be the elevator concierge. And since his former workplace was the Sears Tower, who could blame him for not wanting to leave?! Nevertheless, at the end of the play, he realizes that his self worth is more important than what he does for a living, and he decides to move on. So, happy Labor Day to all! May we all remember that we’re more important than what we do for a living. @indyghostlight 📾 @themorrigantheatreco by @k.a.mcshea

In “Going Down,” it’s Labor Day in 1984, and Richard “Dick” Johnson wants nothing more than to spend the rest of his days working in the illustrious Sears Tower. Born and raised a Hoosier, he has spent his entire adult life with one goal: to be the best businessman Sears has ever seen. But when he gets laid off from his job and money is no object, Dick decides there’s only one thing to do: to take up residence and become an unhired tour guide in one of the 100+ elevators in the tower. Quotable moment: DICK: “I’m forty-four. I have no wife and no kids. I don’t even have a dog. But I had this
It’s been the dream of a lifetime to get to be a part of this.” OFFICER: “Jobs end. Towers fall. It’s okay to move on. Get another job, maybe go on some dates.” PLAYWRIGHT: KAITLYNN MCSHEA-JONES See HOOSIER HOLIDAYS this August! Hear from playwright, Kaitlynn McShea-Jones, as she shares her favorite holiday: “Despite ‘Going Down’ taking place on Labor Day, I have to admit that my favorite holiday isn’t Labor Day–it’s Easter! Spring is my favorite season, and being surrounded by budding flowers, pastels, floral decorations, and a renewed feeling of hope makes me very happy.” See her play, “Going Down,” in HOOSIER HOLIDAYS this August!
