Lot more of a muziek and archival clips collage episode, in other words less talking more experimentation with sound. Featuring film clips from They Live and Fahrenheit 452, Japanese consumer optimisation music, Germans and British science fiction synthpop and extracts from interviews with JG Ballard, Milton Friedman, Aldous Hux (Huxley) and Adam Curtis. by @k.cast.eu

Tomorrow on @open_source_radio I’m presenting the next steps of my research into sound, sedation and speculative fiction. From mechanical song producing factories to pacifying overnight sea shell headphones and independent-thought stripping frequencies, this instalment combines science fiction readings, sound and a touch of shopping dogs.

k.cast: the ragpicker w/ kuff dam is available for playback now.

This episode looks at the (UK) sonic landscape of the 2000s and early 2010s, and how it continues to embody today’s music.

Conceived by K.Cast, this selection gathers records released in countries that no longer exist. Their echoes outlived the borders that shaped them, forming a beautiful, melancholic soundtrack for slow contemplation.

A personal look back at Blur’s original album run (1991-2003). Had a lot of fun recording this and really happy with the selection of tracks. by @k.cast.eu

Glitter Freeze aired as part of the Listening to Possible Worlds last week on @operator.radio. Link in me bio to listen to the whole gosh darn thing.

Thank you to my colleagues at Leiden University incl. @holo_phrase for facilitating this project, @sebastiaanschlicher for thinking through my ideas with me and @tjeu.marienus and @sstandaman100 for music suggestions that made it into the episode. by @k.cast.eu

For the next three hours comes ‘Listening to Possible Worlds’, beginning with scholar Ruth Clemens’ audio essay on music as speculative fiction, considering the relationship between embodied practices of listening, emerging sound technologies, and futurity.

Next up artist Sandipan Nath (knominal) debuts an experimental radio play: Transmission_01.

Michael Thomas Rowland (k.cast) closes things out with an exploration of sonic consumerism and Soviet dreams of futures past, Glitter Freeze. With tracks from Kedr Livansky, форум, Kraftwerk and Fatima Yamaha.

This takeover is part of the preparation for an upcoming sound and music in speculative literature and culture conference taking place on 22-23 October at Leiden University.
