something stuck in your head? by @kaelyn.idk
in february 2025 i worked with the EPA identifying & removing hazardous waste from properties following the fires that devastated the palisades & pasadena. the layers are inspired by walking through & balancing on all the twisted rebar, plumbing, ash, and nails. as the first person on property, it was often uncertain how far below me the ground was. the orange X’s were how we identified certain hazards, and the duct tape was how we secured hands & feet in the tyvek suits (100s of times, so much tape). the handprint is inspired by the ash that would clump heavy on your hands & boots; & conversations with residents still clumping heavy on my heart. the 5th picture is when i started the piece, on my lunch break. this is a layered, very textured piece made mostly with rustoleum, spray paint, duct tape, sharpie, a razor, and a lighter. by @kaelyn.idk
