POSTS STORIES REELS

I had the honour of presenting to the House the Committee on women’s affairs and Social Developments Reports on two bills that I sponsored, following their successful passage through Second Reading and extensive Public Hearings.

The first is the National Child Protection and Welfare Commission Bill (HB 2090), which seeks to establish a dedicated Commission to strengthen Nigeria’s child protection system. The bill provides a coordinated framework to prevent abuse, neglect, exploitation, trafficking, and all forms of violence against children, while promoting their welfare and ensuring the effective protection of their rights.

The second is the Older Persons Rights Bill (HB 2098), which seeks to guarantee the rights, dignity, health, and social and economic well-being of older persons. It provides a framework for healthcare, social protection, economic support, and safeguards against abuse, neglect, discrimination, and abandonment. Our senior citizens have spent their youth building families, communities, institutions, and our nation. They have given their strength, wisdom, and productive years in service to society. As they grow older, it is only just that society gives back by ensuring they can age with dignity, security, quality healthcare, and the support they deserve. A nation’s greatness is reflected in how it treats its children and how it honours those who came before us.

The presentation of these reports marks another important step towards the passage of these landmark bills. I appreciate the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social development, my colleagues in the House, stakeholders, civil society organisations, development partners, and all Nigerians who contributed their insights during the Public Hearings.

I remain committed to advancing legislation that protects the vulnerable, strengthens our institutions, and builds a more compassionate, inclusive, and equitable Nigeria. by @kafilatogbara

To the vibrant and resilient people of Kosofe, Ikosi-Isheri, and Agboyi-Ketu, Today marks exactly three years since I accepted the sacred mantle to represent our remarkable constituency. Three years ago, we embarked on a journey rooted in a simple, unyielding conviction: that Kosofe deserved a voice defined by decisive action. I shared with you then that while I am not perfect, I would remain entirely devoted to showing up for you. Driven by a deep passion for our people, I promised to be present, accountable, and focused.

Today, I am immensely proud to say: We have stayed the course. We did not just show up, we worked tirelessly to deliver tangible results across Kosofe. Together, we are showing what true partnership between a representative and the people can achieve. The evidence of our shared commitment is visible in the infrastructure we are building, the empowerment initiatives we have executed, and the steady, unwavering advocacy we bring to the legislative chambers every single day. Together, we have established a solid foundation of progress.

Our focus remains entirely clear, because there is absolutely nothing more inspiring than a community moving forward with a unified purpose.

Now is not the time to slow down; it is the time to sustain our momentum and complete the vital work we started. I do not view myself merely as your Representative, but as your dedicated partner in progress. While we have achieved significant milestones together, my heart remains firmly set on doing even more for our families and neighborhoods.

My record remains an open book. I invite you to examine our scorecards, see the visible projects across our various wards, measure their impact on our daily lives, and continue building alongside me.

To every constituent, community leader, and supporter who has walked this path with us, offered valuable feedback, and believed in this shared vision: thank you for giving me the strength to keep pushing forward. We are making progress, we are delivering on our promises, and we are truly just getting started.

The future is Kosofe. by @kafilatogbara

My dear people of Kosofe, Ikosi-Isheri and Agboyi- Ketu.

What we achieved at the 2026 Mega Empowerment of Renewed Hope and shared Prosperity is significant but it was not our best. What we have done is impactful, but our best is yet to come.

The truth is that, the need in Kosofe Federal Constituency is far greater. This is why this Mega Empowerment initiative is a continuous process.
To those who were unable to benefit in this edition, I assure you: I will get to you. As long as I serve as your Member of the House of Representatives, we will continue to deliver tangible dividends of democracy to our people.

This Mega Empowerment is a promise of my continued service to Kosofe. It is a commitment to walk this journey together; to rebuild families, support businesses, and create a constituency of shared prosperity where no one is left behind.

This experience reminded me that leadership is first and foremost a matter of the heart. When I looked into the faces of our people, I did not see numbers or statistics. I saw families, struggles, dreams, and quiet strength and I felt it deeply.

To those who benefitted from this empowerment program, I celebrate you. May what you carry now grow gently in your hands. May it become a doorway to dignity, stability, and renewed confidence. May it ease your burdens, become a seed for lasting progress in your homes, and may your progress inspire hope in others.

I offer a prayer for all of my Constituents, may their homes be filled with laughter and for those carrying quiet worries, for the strong and the weary alike. May God bless the work of our hands, and meet us with mercy when strength our runs low. May He keep our families united, our hearts calm, and our steps guided toward peace and abundance.

To everyone who stood by us, who encouraged, who prayed, and who chose to believe in this work. Thank you. Your support is not background noise; it is the foundation upon which this journey continues.

Signed
Kafilat Ogbara

The League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) conferred on me the Gender Justice Advocate Award as it commemorated three distinguished decades of advancing women’s participation in our democracy.

I receive this honour with profound gratitude and accept it as a mandate to keep going.

My role as Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development has taught me one enduring lesson: gender justice is the truest measure of whether our democracy is genuinely inclusive. It is shown in a girl child who completes her education unhindered, in a widow whose rights are steadfastly protected, and in a legislature that truly reflects the people it serves.

For thirty years, NILOWV has advanced this cause with remarkable conviction, one voter, one candidate and one community at a time. I am privileged to stand alongside them, and resolute about the task ahead, including the passage of the Special Seats Bill for Women.

To the good people of Kosofe, my esteemed colleagues, and every woman who has ever been asked to wait her turn: this recognition belongs to us all. Nigeria is stronger, wiser and more just when women share in its leadership, and we are determined to prove it.

Congratulations to NILOWV on this landmark 30th anniversary. @nilowvoters by @kafilatogbara

Building on the inspiring strides we made last year, this year’s session has been equally impactful; reinforcing our commitment to purposeful leadership, women’s empowerment, and community development.

I applaud Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, First Lady of Lagos State and Chairperson of COWLSO, together with the entire COWLSO team, for their commitment to empowering women and driving meaningful change within our communities.

I was honoured to attend the 10th Convocation Anniversary of the NILDS/UNIBEN Postgraduate Programme, a significant milestone celebrating a decade of academic excellence, institutional collaboration and commitment to democratic governance.

The occasion provided an important platform for reflection on the role of education, legislative scholarship and institutional development in strengthening our democracy and advancing national progress.

The lecture, “ State Police in Nigeria: Issues, Challenges and Prospects,” addressed a matter of profound national importance. As we continue to engage on the future of our security architecture, our deliberations must be guided by the national interest, constitutional principles, respect for fundamental rights and the collective aspiration for a safer and more secure Nigeria.

I commend the leadership of NILDS and the University of Benin for sustaining this partnership and investing in the intellectual capacity required to shape public policy and strengthen our democratic institutions. I also extend my congratulations to the graduating scholars as they assume new responsibilities in their respective fields of endeavour.

I remain convinced that the quality of our democracy depends, in no small measure, on the strength of our institutions, the character of our leadership and the values that underpin our political parties. These are areas that deserve sustained attention, informed engagement and deliberate investment.

May this milestone inspire renewed commitment to national unity, democratic consolidation and purposeful leadership.

Our collective responsibility remains clear: to put Nigeria first, always.

I was delighted to receive Dr. Adedayo Benjamin-Laniyi, the newly appointed Director-General of the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, Abuja, in my office. @dayobenlaniyi

Having known Dr. Adedayo for over 15 years, it was particularly heartwarming to engage with her in this new capacity. Our longstanding acquaintance makes this moment especially meaningful, and I look forward to continued engagement and collaboration in advancing women’s empowerment, institutional development, and inclusive growth.

I also fondly acknowledge the immediate past Director-General, Mrs Asabe Vilitta Bashir with whom I enjoyed a fantastic relationship built on mutual respect, goodwill, and shared commitment to the advancement of women. I deeply value the relationship we shared and the spirit of collaboration that characterised our engagement.

As we welcome this new chapter at the Centre, I remain convinced that purposeful partnerships, continuity, and sustained engagement are essential to creating meaningful opportunities for women and strengthening their contributions to national development.

I warmly welcome Dr. Adedayo to this important responsibility and wish her a successful and impactful tenure.

Every assignment carries a duty to the people by @kafilatogbara

Today, I had the privilege of moving a motion on the floor of the House of Representatives to commemorate the International Day of the Girl Child, under the theme: “End Child Marriage and Invest in the Girl Child.”

As Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development, I remain steadfast in my commitment to championing the rights, protection, education, and empowerment of every Nigerian girl.

Child marriage is a grave violation of a girl’s rights, depriving her of the innocence of childhood, curtailing her educational prospects, jeopardising her health, and diminishing her capacity to realise her full potential. We must intensify our efforts to safeguard our girls, strengthen the enforcement of child protection laws, and create an enabling environment in which every girl can access quality education, develop her abilities, and pursue her aspirations without hindrance.

Through this motion, I called for a more concerted and coordinated response among relevant ministries, agencies, and stakeholders, alongside robust legislative frameworks and adequate budgetary provisions to advance meaningful investment in the girl child.

Every girl deserves the dignity of childhood, the privilege of education, the freedom to make informed choices, and the opportunity to shape her own destiny. When we invest in our girls, we strengthen our families, advance our communities, and secure a more equitable, prosperous, and sustainable future for Nigeria.

The time has come to translate our commitments into concrete action, our policies into measurable outcomes, and our advocacy into lasting change.
