@SceneStyled: What happens when sport becomes a space of exclusion? For lifelong athletes Clara Jouval and Zeynab Alabbar, the answer was lived, not theoretical. Clara, a former rhythmic gymnast who grew up in Switzerland’s mountains and later converted to Islam, found herself suddenly sidelined when she began wearing the hijab. Zeynab, a Swiss-Libyan with a background in art, design, and fashion, had long sensed the untapped potential of modest fashion — a world often dismissed as outdated or niche. Their parallel frustrations collided into a single vision: Kamak, a global sportswear brand built to give women the freedom to move without compromise. In this @SceneStyled feature, Staff Writer Layla Raik speaks to the founders, weaving their story into her own observations as a recreational gym-goer who has watched countless women struggle between performance and modesty. While her personal stakes were lower — quitting the gym would never end her career — Clara and Zeynab’s reality was different. For them, choosing modesty meant exclusion from the sports they loved, a tension that seeded a mission.
