The Geothermal Wonder of Ladakh
Sulphur Spring and Wetlands of Puga Valley

One of the most striking features of Puga Valley is its natural sulphur hot spring, where mineral-rich water continuously emerges from deep beneath the Earth's surface.

Are you wondering how?
Well, the spring is formed when rainwater and melted snow seep into underground rock layers, are heated by the Earth's geothermal energy, and return to the surface carrying dissolved sulphur and other minerals. The steam, bubbling water and strong sulphur scent make it a unique geothermal landscape.

The fun part-
Surrounding the hot spring are fragile high-altitude wetlands nourished by the warm spring water and nearby streams. You can jump from one wetland to another and that's how you reach the sulphur spring. It's superrrrr fun and dangerous but more fun than dangerous if you are careful :p
These wetlands create a rare oasis in the cold desert of Ladakh, supporting specialised grasses, sedges, mosses, migratory birds, and other wildlife adapted to the harsh Himalayan environment. Beyond their ecological importance, the wetlands help regulate water flow, store carbon, and sustain the valley's biodiversity, making them an essential part of Puga Valley's unique natural ecosystem.

Some of my core memories of Ladakh are playing and hugging these kids. They used to come running to me anytime they found me strolling around the market. I remember dancing my heart out with them during the Ladakh festival & that's exactly how we became friends. They have such wholesome smiles and innocent eyes, it will always echo in my heart ❤️✨ by @kammoji_
