WELCOME TO DARK MATTER, KAREN πŸ–€ We’re excited to welcome @karen_klink as the newest resident artist coming back from Barcelona Coming from an illustration background, Karen brings a distinctive illustrative and artistic approach to tattooing, translating her own visual language into pieces made specifically for the skin. We’re happy to have her joining the Dark Matter family and can’t wait to see what she creates with us. Welcome, Karen. πŸ–€ πŸ“ Dark Matter Ink β€” Gemmayze, Beirut Bookings now open by @karen_klink
Karen Klink creates vibrant and playful worlds tinged with a bleak fantastical twist, blurring the lines between flora and fauna. While many of her hybrids are « unearthlyΒ Β», her work encompasses a range of characters from the whimsical to the absurd, inbued with emotions and lurid politics. These birds, like all the other creatures she draws, have become vehicles for her to express her feelings and unearth what it is to be human. Her illustrations capitalize on ambiguity to weave fact and fiction, warped perspectives and exaggerated power plays. Her recent body of work is a wistful ode to Illusion and the deceptive and misleading fragility of our own reality. @karen_klink will be part of the exhibition Unearth taking place this Friday 8th of Dec from 18h till 22h at Klinkstudios πŸŒ™ by @karen_klink

Leaning on her tattooing practice, Karen Klink extends its formal and symbolic vocabularies, and the imaginaries that inhabit them. The particular relationship to gesture and support that tattooing engages opens onto a space of attention and transformationβ€”of what takes form, passes through and metabolizes. The bestiary becomes a space both of visual and sound experimentation with a sonic piece created with @joy_moughanni where figures traversed by affects, biology and cosmogonic imaginaries emerge and mutate, progressively escaping the categories that seek to represent them. In the week leading up to the opening, Klink will work from within the exhibition space at @takeover.beirut Her workstation, materials and traces of the process will remain as part of the show. Opening night October 1st 5–9pm 🍸 The exhibition will be on till the 7th of October 1.10 till 7.10 6-9pm or by appointment πŸ’« by @karen_klink

Topologies of the ghost skins in between Mineral ink on Latex By approaching each of these skins with the state of attention, listening and gesture specific to my tattooing practice, new forms come into being and become liminal existences, where symbolic and collective imaginaries meet and where, on a microscopic scale, biological transformations gradually initiate their own becoming, until a feral ecology emerges.
