I run bike and swim sometimes
POSTS STORIES REELS
I like giving races some breathing room and time to reflect, and it’s been a while since I’ve posted anything at all. But with all the NYC marathon energy in the air this week, I felt ready to share a little. I’ve had a difficult year with a lot of instability in my personal life, but through it all, my training block was still solid. Going into Chicago, I promised myself that no matter what else was going on in my life, I was going to fight for it. I wasn’t entirely sure where my head was at, but I knew I was fit and I had nothing to lose. The night before @chimarathon, I asked @dr.gdemera, maybe a little jokingly, for some last words of wisdom. Without missing a beat, he hit me with this: “The idea is to run as if running is the only thing that matters - because tomorrow, it is.” And did that ever stick with me. When I stepped to the line, I had one job. For those few hours, nothing else mattered - it was time to let all that sh*t go. The sun started beating down early, and in the middle miles, I could feel the A-goal slipping away. But in true marathon fashion, I kept gaslighting myself into running “just one more mile.” I wasn’t giving up without a fight, and somewhere in all of that, I finally broke 2:40- in a year when nothing else had come particularly easy. I’m thankful for the morning workouts this summer with my very speedy, hardworking, humble teammates (you know who you are), and endlessly grateful for my supportive friends. Some of you have seen me in some pretty dark places. Thank you for being in my corner. It’s easy to look back and think, “I wanted more,” or “I trained for a faster time.” But famously, the marathon owes you nothing. Remember to be proud of how far you’ve come. Stop and reflect. Smile a little. You’re doing cool things. 2:39:14 @dashingwhippets 💙 by @katannemayer
Tomorrow, we race. I’ve had a blast this training cycle. It’s not been without its challenges, but I’m thankful for every moment ☺️ See you tomorrow, NYC! 📸 @thats_so_mo.a.f by @katannemayer
Feeling immensely grateful for this experience. Running is not an individual sport - we can’t do cool things alone. For my teammate @robert_dery, and for @dr.gdemera @krazytuesday4 @theendurancerdn @mariajgilbert @moore__js @freyalindvall and the rest of my running family who supported from near and far, I have no words. Thank you so much ❤️ OSR30 is more than a 30 mile perimeter race, it’s a celebration that brings our community together. Thank you to @orchardstreetrunners, @corey.m.weiss and all of the volunteers for an epic event. #OSR30 📸 (1): @kristinawilliamson_ (2,4): @ava_pellor (3,5): @grahammacindoe by @katannemayer
Fight like hell, my face says it all. NYC Half 2024: After the first mile my mind was already telling me that it was over, that we weren’t going to finish. By the half way mark I was falling apart, ready to walk off the course. But I just kept telling myself to run one more mile… just one more mile. This race wasn’t pretty. This face isn’t pretty. This training cycle has been anything but perfect. But it was a PR and an effort to be proud of. Thank you to my @dashingwhippets family for your crazy cheers, you lift me up 🫶 Fight like hell even when you think it’s not your day. 4 weeks until Boston. by @katannemayer
We’re so back!!! Stoked to kick off the season with an OSR win, and thankful to be healthy and strong. Thank you to @orchardstreetrunners @corey.m.weiss for organizing this epic event. Thrilled to work with @dr.gdemera @theendurancerdn this season - you guys are awesome. Lots of exciting things to come. 📸 @samuelmtrimble by @katannemayer

Thankful for these girls and so many others who made me laugh and smile this year 💕 Cheers to many more laughs in 2024! 📸 3: @thats_so_mo.a.f 5: @freyalindvall by @katannemayer
This year was epic. One year ago I was toeing the line of my first marathon, CIM, after a slew of injuries and disappointments. Since then, I’ve raced 3 world majors, a 50K road ultra, and 2 half Ironmans. I gave it my all this year. I’m intensely grateful for my friends and teammates. I’m continuously humbled by this sport and I don’t take good health for granted. Excited to have capped off the year with a bang at NYCM. I was in awe— the energy was electric. I just soaked it all in. The most special moment was finding @tommoshier in the finishing chute and giving him the biggest hug as he cried his eyes out because he’d beaten all the odds against him and run the race of his life. It was pure, raw emotion. I’m so proud. I knew you’d do it, Tom, I love you. Never stop smiling!!! See you on the race course next year! 📸 2: @freyalindvall 3: @thats_so_mo.a.f by @katannemayer

Ahhh what a race!!! I just went for it. I shut my brain off and just raced my heart out. I went out faster than I planned to and held on for as long as I could. I was flying at mile 13, and then almost falling apart at 17. I just kept telling my legs to shut up, kept reminding myself that this is mind over matter, that PRs aren’t pretty and that this is my shot - go go go! And then in the blink of an eye (sort of 😅) it was over and it was amazing. All those hot summer workouts, hard indoor bike rides, and frantic days of squeezing training in between long work hours… it’s magical to see it all pay off when you have a day like this. But as happy as I am with the execution, it’s not really about the race itself. It’s about everything leading up to it and everything that follows. It’s about the people who help you get there and stick with you through the best and worst of times. It’s about keeping a level head and being thankful and gracious and never taking anything for granted. I’m proud of the PR and thankful for how far I’ve come this year. Thank you to @dr.gdemera for pushing me and believing in me. And thank you to my incredible @dashingwhippets family 💙💛 by @katannemayer
Feeling strong, hitting some big mileage goals, and excited to see where this Fall season takes me 🤩 Chicago here we come! 📸 @zafarchoriev by @katannemayer
I felt incredibly privileged as I walked into transition last Saturday for my pre-race bike check. I started to tear up because it’s not every day that you get to the start line healthy and injury free. A year ago I couldn’t get out of bed without pain or put on a pair of pants without sitting down. I took up cycling in a fit of rage and determination and wow, what a difference a year can make. I’ve grown to love the damn bike. Thanks to some focused bike training, this race was a big PR from my first @ironmantri 70.3 (Oceanside in April) and I’m really happy with it. I consider myself a runner, but I think triathlon might be stealing my heart. Hungry for more & excited to see where I can take this sport in the future, but for now I’m going to reflect and be grateful. It’s a privilege to get to race at all, let alone to travel to Finland and race on an international level. Thank you to my badass Mom for being a role model, exposing me to triathlon, supporting me (and for letting me borrow that fancy bike). Thank you to @tommoshier for his undying support on and off the race course. Thank you to @dr.gdemera for guiding my training and getting me to the line healthy, fit and fast. Thank you and congratulations to @jas.chou, badass and inspiration. by @katannemayer
