Progress on a new still life. Fall is here and so are the gorgeous apples. Nice little break from the rolling sea and horses painting. #stillifepainting #apple #fall #classicart #traditionalartwork #stilllife #oilpainting #fallinphiladelphia #applepainting #katequinnwrightfineart #contemporaryart #contemporaryrealism #realism by @katewright_fineart

The composition is horizontal and panoramic, emphasizing the vastness of the sea and the isolation of the horses. Through this narrative landscape painting of wild horses by a turbulent sea, I was trying to depict the resilience of the lived human experience. I wanted the work to carry a sense of quiet resilience and natural dignity, consistent with the title, “Blessed Are the Meek.”
The title Blessed Are the Meek directly echoes the third Beatitude from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:5):
The horses are not heroic or dramatic. Instead they stand with a calm, unforced dignity—solid, watchful, and unhurried. In Christian tradition, the meek are those who do not grasp for power, status, or control. The painting does not preach; it simply shows what meekness looks like: not weakness or passivity, but power under gentle control, the refusal to assert dominance even when one could. I guess it intended meaning was my reaction to the world’s pursuit of fame instead of personal quiet strength. The setting itself becomes part of the Beatitude’s meaning.
In the tonalist tradition, my hope was to convey a sense of quiet struggle through the work’s mood and atmosphere. 48 x 24” oil.

The Philadelphia Art Museum and the Fairmount Waterworks
“Ten years of love, bottled in paint. 💍✨
This painting was commissioned by a fabulous collector who saw my work at the Wayne Art Center’s Annual Juried Show. He and his wife really liked my “Peter and the Wave” painting and contacted me. The collector wanted to commission a painting of specifically the Fairmount Waterworks for a 10-year wedding anniversary gift because the couple were married there. When researching a proper photo, I discovered a shot of the Waterworks with the Philadelphia Art Museum in the background as an added bonus. Since the couple were married in May, I had to add foliage and a sunset infused sky to capture that “Spring in Philadelphia”
Feeling. I wanted to keep the mood festive and upbeat so I found a photo reference and invented a lot of the colors and reflections on the water and the golden pink hue of the buildings. Fortunately, the collector, who, by the way was a joy to work with, and his wife were very pleased.
The scene evokes nostalgia and pride because it represents two iconic city landmarks. Who hasn’t seen this scene if you have ever been stuck in traffic on the Schuylkill expressway? And, on the other side of the Philadelphia Art Museum is the famous steps that Rocky Balboa ran up in his also iconic Rocky movies. As I “punched through” a lot of the detail of this painting, his training scenes came to my mind. I just kept going!!

Beach at Pirates Cove Anitqua

I had a lot of fun doing this painting on the beach in Antiqua. It was done late afternoon when the wind rolls in and a tiny rain storm had come and gone. The sky was really tumultuous but beautiful. I took this back to my studio and worked on it very lightly as not to (as I sometimes do) interfere with the spontaneous mark making that is so important to the success of en plein air paintings. I am finally am getting over being a bit shy when painting in public. I actually met a lot of interesting and friendly people. The little British boy in the foreground became my buddy for the day and we had a lot of fun. I think there is a bug, some sand and a strand of my hair mashed into this somewhere but it adds to the texture. I like doing this sort of painting because it is a nice departure from my studio paintings. I should have this posted to my website by end of day. As always, the original and prints are available at www.katequinnwright.com

At that time: Jesus lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: ‘Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, and revile you, and spurn your name as evil on account of the Son of Man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry. Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep. Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.’
Luke 6:20-26
You are a martyr because you were persuasive and your enemies hated you for that. You went home to the Lord before us. I hope you were filled with joy when you heard, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
God bless you Charlie. Please pray for us until we meet again.

One of my favorite artist is William Lathrop from the New Hope impressionist movement. I did a copy of his painting “Ely’s Bridge.” Copying from the masters is always a great learning experience. I am a little less certain on what the perimeters are if selling, printing etc bc it falls into copyright infringement so I guess this will be a nice Christmas gift for a friend❤️ #lathrop #newhopeimpressionism #landscapepaintings #buckscountypa #realismpainting #traditionalartist #summerlandscape #classicalart #newhopepa #pennsylvaniaartist by @katewright_fineart
