I am happy to welcome and host senior teacher and life long practitioner Kathy Cooper @AYRF on October 3-5!

Kathy has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga consistently since 1976. David Williams and Nancy Gilgoff were her primary teachers. They taught me all of the series and pranayama. Day 2 of Kathy Coopers @kathycooper11 Ashtanga Yoga workshop at @yogasanghamanchester (Kathy is 78 years old btw! 🤩)

Here is a look at some of the things that we explored in the workshop today, largely drawn from the intermediate series of Ashtanga though with the foundations of what is established in practice from the Primary Series.

We began with ‘Breath and Bandhas, exploring the relationship between breath, bandha awareness and alignment and how these principles can support a more stable, sustainable practice through all of the vinyasa and transitions that we make in an Ashtanga/yoga practice.

The afternoon session moved into back bending, looking at the principles behind safe and progressive backbending, with development work and adaptations to suit different bodies and levels of practice.

Kathy worked individually with those who attended throughout the sessions, offering guidance, adjustments and practical insight drawn from many years of teaching and practice. I have saved my favourite video of Kathy helping me with Kapotasana for my next post! 😝🙏❤️

Looking forward to tomorrows day of practice and learning!

And just like that, another incredible retreat in Crete has come to a close. 🧘✨

Starting each morning in the Mysore room under the guidance of senior Ashtanga teacher Kathy Cooper @kathycooper11 was an absolute honor.

Her wisdom, warmth, and lifelong dedication to the practice left us all feeling so inspired.

Beyond the mat, this week was made whole by the most amazing group of students who brought so much beautiful energy, laughter, and community to the space. And of course, we fueled it all with the most incredible, nourishing food everyday. 🥑🍅

It was one of ‘those’ mornings today at Stillpoint, where the planets align and we can organise a surprise one off rare and beautiful collaborative moment.
