Pine cones, salty air, and 12s waves - Tofino is my new favorite winter playground. After wrapping a conference in Victoria, I made a beeline north for a week of beach camping. I’m learning that my favorite holidays resemble fieldwork, with an essence of remoteness and a rhythm that recalibrates me. by @katiekokom

A day at my favorite place, celebrating one of my favorite people: Grandma Peggy!

Some fun facts about granny: She’s the queen of one-liners. She wishes she liked sunflowers, but she just doesn’t care for the color yellow. She invented the ‘Peggy pour’ which is the only proper way to use a wine glass. She also (probably) has the world’s largest jingle shell collection, which I personally find funny, because they’re mostly yellow. But most of all, she’s just a delight and we adore her! by @katiekokom

The effect of an ice axe ricocheting into a solid placement is parallel to a sound bath. Dry-tooling, not so much.

Siempre para Siempre. Sweet baby girl and her long ears are 16 years old today! Our smiley Benjamin Button. I truly adore her and all her little quirks 💙 by @katiekokom

On the island for granny’s 90th ! Little photo dump of granny and some of the (most lovable) clowns that I grew up with. All smiles, even @sean_boog while putting our childhood training to good use.

“Ya know something, Miss Kate. I’m looking at these photos and I’m thinking- boy, I sure have lived some life.” -Grandma Peggy while watching her birthday slideshow made by birthday boy @likemikemarion by @katiekokom

I have returned to the land of durian! Durian is a fruit that is sweet yet creamy, and packed with protein. You either love it or are repulsed by its mere smell.

Last field season I fell in love with durian but shortly after developed a strong aversion to it. Now, I’m back to rekindle that love - while collecting some sleep data that is totally unrelated. #science

These photos accurately portray the range of emotions people experience when tasting durian fruit. The last photo is just your average Land Rover-top feast.
