We are all imperfect gems.💎 As final round voting opens, we are deeply and humbly honored to have your consideration for KURUVINDA in Best New Age, Ambient, or Chant. 🪉🎶♦️♥️ Creating this album was a journey of leaning into vulnerability and transforming flaws into something beautiful. It’s been incredible to see this music reach new audiences and spark conversations around self-acceptance. If Kuruvinda resonated with you, we’re grateful that its message found a home with you. 🙏 Thank you for your consideration! #grammys #grammyawards #grammynominated #kuruvinda #newagemusic #harpist #composer #iamtheacademy #recordingacademy #fyc #foryourconsideration by @kcopelymusic
Celebrating @harpcolumn’s 200th magazine edition! 👏 Just one year ago, I was the cover girl for the Sept/Oct issue and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this vibrant harp community. From Sounding Board features, Q&A’s, and highlights, to an original Tear Out tune, @reeseharp and @kimharp have been so supportive of me and countless other harpists since 1993. Not a subscriber? Which two carry the gig for you? The last time I played this game with you, it was superpowers, and the comments turned into the best musician group chat I have ever hosted. So here is the gig edition. Your next booking comes with exactly two of these blessings: full fee with no discount talk, a rooftop or ballroom venue, a dancing audience, a setlist of nothing but your favorites, or your dream duo partner beside you. If you are a working musician building a career out of nights like these, follow along, I post the parts of this business nobody teaches @kcopelymusic Harpist | Professional Musician |Music Business | Freelance Musician | Music Career |Music Industry | New York Musician | Gig Life | by @kcopelymusic
Sight-reading was one of the most picked answers on my “choose two superpowers” reel, and this is the session I think about whenever it comes up. Recording for @jamshiedsharifi, whose harp writing is famously not sight-reading friendly, and two of his charts had gone unseen in my email. No practice, no markings, nothing. What got me through was relying on three habits: 1️⃣ reading ahead 2️⃣ protecting the tempo no matter what 3️⃣ learning the map before the notes. One clarification before anyone comes after rule number two. In real time you play the chart as well as you can from start to finish and you never stop, because stopping breaks the take. But afterward there is editing. 🙏 If you stumbled in a measure, you can punch it in and fix it. The tempo rule is about getting a complete, usable performance down in the moment, not about pretending the fix-it pass does not exist. If you are a musician building exactly that skill, follow along @kcopelymusic. I post the unwritten rules nobody teaches you in university. One text saying “I’m here” takes contractors from worried to relieved, and they remember those who made their night easier. It also gives them the chance to tell personnel that you’re about to load in, which sometimes produces a helping hand or clear directions on where to enter. For harpists, this is a real benefit! ✨Save this for later, send to a friend, and follow @kcopelymusic for more freelance musician tips. ✨ What’s a small habit that’s gotten YOU rehired? 👇 Harpist | Professional Musician | Music Career | Freelance Musician | Music Business | Career Advice | Music Tips | New York Musician | Harpist Live Music Luxury Events Wedding Music by @kcopelymusic
For Casa Cipriani’s annual Halloween party, the doors opened into an enchanted forest, and the harp was the first sound guests heard as they stepped inside. Hundreds of people in extraordinary costumes, drifting past moss and wildflowers while the music set the spell for the night ahead. Thank you so much, @rcourihay for this amazing 🎥 footage (and closed caption voiceover) and @jordanwolfproductions for the call. Cuz my actual career keeps disproving them. 🤷‍♀️ The harp is not only for classical music, it does not always live at the back of the orchestra, and yes, harpists can absolutely groove. 🕺🏿 So, tell me honestly in the comments, which one did you believe before this post, and what is the myth about your own instrument or your own job that you wish people knew? from 0% to 100% 😄 It started at 9am at @powerstationatberkleenyc , recording for a film soundtrack. ⬇️ Then the harp waiting to be loaded into my car on a Manhattan sidewalk and home to get glam for the evening. ⬇️ Next up: Halloween party at @casaciprianinyc, playing ethereal garden music as the room filled with 800 people and watching the prize worthy costumes. I was in a @cinqasept white Rosalba dress, especially for the occasion. Nobody tells you that starting to compose after decades of performing other people’s music feels like being a beginner in a career where you are supposed to be the expert. 🤷‍♀️ I wish I had known that ideas do not flow every day, and that creating when you are inspired is not a flaw in the process. I wish I had known to borrow belief until mine grew, because imposter syndrome is real, and no nomination, award or accolade diminishes it. And I wish I had known how much easier it gets the moment you stop being your own worst critic. If you are a musician working through your own version of this, I do 1:1 coaching for exactly these crossroads. Comment CAREER and I will send you the details. I’ll start: “Creep” by @radiohead No one ever asks for it, but the second I start playing it, it turns heads and owns the room.
