May 5, 2014, a day I will never forget. I was at the mall buying a dress, a yellow dress, one which I never wore again, when my cell phone rang. It was my doctor with my thyroid biopsy results. He said your biopsy results came back positive for cancer! All of a sudden I was alone in my own world even though I was surrounded by so many people. I couldnโ€™t speak. I couldnโ€™t breathe. Little did I know that having cancer would be one of the best things that could happen to me in a stupid kinda crazy way. Had I not gone through that struggle, I would not have found my strength, both mentally and physically! It has changed me. It made me want to be fit and healthy and live life to the fullest. I cleaned up my diet and began my journey. I started running. I did obstacle course races. I found the gym and started lifting weights. I felt strong and powerful. A half marathon, triathlon, an Iron Girl, 6 Spartan obstacle course races later and Iโ€™m still going. I became a certified personal trainer and last year competed in a bodybuilding fitness competition at the age of 54. 9 years later and I am still cancer free! Today I tried that dress on again and I felt amazing in it because I have come so far since that day, not only physical but mentally too! Thereโ€™s so much more to my story but the most important part is that I am HAPPIER finally being ME and Iโ€™m truly enjoying this thing called LIFE! #thyroidcancersurvivor #cancersucks #9years #blessed #thankful #livelifetothefullest #iykyk #behappy #smilemore #lifeistooshort #doitforyou #fitover50 #thisis54 #unstoppable #enjoyingeverymoment by @keepcalm_carion
