Where academia meets fun and love for the world as well as everything in it ~
Sustainability Researcher | Founder @infavoroftheplanet

POSTS STORIES REELS

I’m use to doing a lot. I don’t always say a lot about it or document every single thing but it all evens out in the end!

It feels like this year I hit the ground running. Even though sometimes it seems like I don’t always have much to show for it, I’m living through invaluable experiences while seeing first-hand where the problem areas are in our world.

Sustainability is still a fairly new major and disciplinary of study, even though we’ve had environmental problems since man decided to put two and two together. I almost feel like a pioneer in the field with our ever-rising issues as our textbooks are as recent as 2021!

There’s soo much to know, so much to read, so much to learn! It’s the ultimate puzzle for someone who loves a challenge! It’s the best path I’ve ever taken thus far. 🌍

So Happy International Girls & Women in STEM Day!

To think.. this is only the beginning 😭🥹

Whatever you want to do, there is a spot for you. Stay determined, reach out, keep showing up, and bring your best smile!! 🤗

I study environmental science with a focus on sustainability. This is my work. Combining science with the art of helping people, this is what sustainability is about 🫶🏽

🌍 I say ‘in favor of the planet’ because in reality, we have the choice.

📝 Living In Favor of the Planet means to make habitual of the choices that offer equal if not more benefits to the environment and all its inhibitors.

This means that we’re making less linear choices and more circular ones. More decisions that support ultimate longevity and less that bring harm to other people, nonhuman animals and surrounding vegetation.

Living in favor of the planet is a lifestyle, not a fad. 💚

I chose the tree 🌳 as the emblem of the movement because of their magnificence. We can go into that later!

Follow the official IFOTP pages @infavoroftheplanet as we get ready to set it off 🤞🏽

Incredibly small acts can help global sustainability efforts significantly! 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒🌍☮️

Primary pollinators like these🐝 are one of the many species that need to be able to thrive in urban environments and have to adapt to our spacial divide. 🌆

Local citizens and business owners can do incredibly small things such as planting pollen producing plants in their yard space or even alleyway to allow nature to thrive and share space! 🌼🌸🌺

Don’t forget to put a weatherproof sign up! 🪧
Awareness will help keep your ecosystem protected while allowing others to enjoy the beautiful scenery and even consider doing the same thing! 🌱

Massive thank you to @kwalliance for allowing me open up the Concurrent Session 2 with The Bigger Picture Perspective (TBPP) at their 4th annual Kentucky Watershed Network Summit! 💧

Visiting Berea again was so much fun, folks are always so nice and kind. There were so many intriguing things discussed over the entire summit, I was simply happy to be there! Many participants provided great informational pamphlets and even gave away water sampling kits! 😄

I was quite thrilled and honored to have people come up to me and pick my brain a bit after speaking on TBPP and @infavoroftheplanet as well as my interests as a researcher. It was all absolutely inspiring and these moments are so integral to my career. I am grateful to have met such amazing people, connect with like-minds, and represent my college and hometown. 😌

Next month I’ll be in Lexington expanding on The Bigger Picture Perspective with a poster presentation at the 50th annual KAEE (Kentucky Association for Environmental Education) conference!

I hope to see everyone there! 💚🩵💚

Saying goodbye to Summer 🥹

I got to thinking that there are so many fun and funny moments I encounter during my academic journey. I’m having the best time simply enjoying that, on top of everything else 🫶🏽

Not only are lemons 🍋 a product of our own doing, so are most of the problems we are facing today. 😳

Before taking up sustainability science 🥼 in college, I got 📃 double certified in culinary arts. Learning to turn raw material into food was important to me.

I remember when I first learned that lemons 🍋 were created through selective crop breeding thousands of years ago with the ancestral parent-plants being citron and bitter oranges. 🍊

Fast forward to today where I’m studying the 🌱environmental, 🫂 social and 🪎 economic problems that are among the world from a scientific angle - there is some relation.

Good thing it isn’t too late for society to change 💚🩵

It’s kind of human to care 🫂

I commend every individual, group, organization and institution that simply tries. 💚

There are so many complex factors to consider when aiming to make a difference. Sometimes it can be scary, daunting, intimidating and even dangerous to care.

The thing is, though, sometimes we never regret doing something more than if we didn’t. The regret of ‘I could have’ but the fear of ‘what if I did’ can be one of the greatest decisions we make as humans.

What if you said hi to the person who is always quiet?

What if you stopped your car to help that animal across a busy road?

What if you refused to buy that thing even though all of your friends had it?

What if you took a photo rather than taking the paper?

What if you brought joy to the deserted?

What if you dared to care?

Well, what if you didn’t.

That quiet person could seep into depressing isolation, potentially harming themselves or others.

That animal could have perished, along with its legacy and potential evolution.

Some corporation saw more demand and ordered more raw material, causing more mining in places that should be protected.

More items went into the landfill when that paper wasn’t recycled or worse, possibly littering the ground.

The alone and deserted (elderly, imprisoned, etc) could draw an end to worldly contributions we’ve yet to see.

Each time that we decide to withhold our kindness and positive contribution, we leave spaces exactly as we entered them- or worse.

It’s Human to Care. Don’t you think?

Finally got to tour the @fruitfullridge farm, owned and operated by @timmy_coddington! 👏🏽

Through his deep passion and dedication to growing the North American native PawPaw fruit (Asimina Triloba) as well as many others, I learned so many things about urban agriculture! 🌾

I had never tasted one before this day!! It has a thicker texture that is super sweet, I could see all kinds of tasty treats being made from it! 🤤

10/10 would recommend!!!

While creating (IFOTP) In Favor of the Planet, I want to stay transparent. We have been working around the clock for months to build a credible and consistent sustainability education and consulting small green business!

🌳 In Favor of the Planet exists to translate sustainability research into practical, behavior-focused guidance that empowers people and organizations to reduce their impact and build lasting, measurable change.

Our website will be live again tomorrow around noon EST, it is currently down for scheduled updates. Right now we are locking in our pilots (for September) so that we can showcase the process right on the site!

This is all really exciting stuff. 🙂‍↔️ As I mentioned in the video, I have a big longterm vision for IFP. So along the journey, I’ll be sharing the process!

Follow @infavoroftheplanet and support Louisville’s new sustainability education and consulting resource!
