I truly enjoyed painting this scene over the Wando River! The sun, peeking through the clouds, cast a warm glow over the marsh that day. I hope you enjoy!😊

This pastel painting is really special to me. It brings back special memories of the time spent with my family there. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did painting it!

We are continuing to share stories behind award-winning pieces.
Kellie Jacobs @kelliejacobsart5 is sharing an insight on her process:
“My favorite subject matter is within a few miles of my home in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. From the tidal creek marshes, beaches along the coast, to the paths and dirt roads in the countryside. This is where my inspiration came from in my pastel painting “A Gentle Light”. I used an alcohol wash underpainting over a sanded surface in the beginning, and then added subsequent layers of soft pastel to the finished piece. I often use turpenoid washes as well to establish the values and get rid of the fear of the white surface. It’s very important to me as an artist to capture a particular mood or feeling in my art, and allow the viewer to complete the landscape with their own experiences or memories.

Most days, recently, I have moved my studio outdoors or en PleinAir because of our beautiful weather. I absolutely love my Heilman BackPack Box with my lightweight MeFoto tripod. It’s user friendly and easy to carry via backpack to my favorite spots!” by @kelliejacobsart5

Feeling incredibly grateful today! Thank you @thesalonartprize and judge Lance Rehs @rehscontemporary for including my pastel painting, “Roadside Reverie”, as a finalist!
