What an absolute blast! The Red Rug Affair was a great night of catching up with old and new friends from the Alberta film and television industry. It was a night that I didn’t realize I needed. I had so much fun I barely took any photos! Thank you to @syndicate__films for bringing the community together, raising some funds for @parkinsonassociationofalberta and shaking this town up. @chadrook @jesusortizc_ @kevin_moriarity It’s going to be a great year for film in Alberta and I’m ready. I know I am late to the game on this but I had a good reason (more on that later). The Last of Us Episode 9 will be locked in my memory forever. I got to work alongside the amazing @ashleythejohnson to tell the origin story of Ellie’s immunity. Dope! Ashley was an absolute blast to work with and I can’t believe I actually scared her! You can hear all about her experience in Episode 9 of the Last of Us Podcast (at 19:55) (link in comments below) I watched episode 9 in hospital holding my newborn son (hence the radio silence, watching Ashley Johnson play a pregnant Anna who is in labour who gets attacked by an infected version of me and in an almost life ending fight gives birth to a baby and kills infected me and Maggie the assistant stunt coordinator was 8 months pregnant and there were real babies on set and then I get pregnant a week after we shoot that episode. It was a baby filled trip! I had to rewatch the episode a week later out go hospital because I was still like WTF. Thank you to Guy Bews, @maggiemacnew and Lisbeth for this opportunity and making the day (and show) a success. This was my last gig on season 1 and it was certainly a memorable one. And thank you to @druckmann and @clmaizen for creating such a brilliant world for us to play in. And the amazing @paulspateri, @johnnymurohy1988 and @barriegower made me look good…well bad…you know…infected! Evidence we went on date. I smiled and he took the picture. Cider was enjoyed. 10/10 night ❤️ by @kelseythekraken
It’s my CHAMP anniversary today 🥊. 10 years ago I did a cool thing with a bunch of cool folks. The IFMA World Championship in Langkawi Malaysia with Team Canada. I beat Russia in the final to bring home the GOLD! It was hot. My blue hair faded SO fast. I ate beef satay, rice and salad on repeat. Drank water and bullet proof coffees. Weighed in everyday we fought (ooof). @janlmac and I caught a rat in our room in the middle of the night. We broke our blender. Watched “True Facts About the Mantis Shrimp” to get me through weight cuts. We rained, slept, cut weight, fought, trained, cut weight, slept. It was a magical time in my life that I am very grateful for. Thank you to my coach Trevor and @teamsmandych teammates Sean, Nate and Janice! And an extra special thanks to @gabe.director for capturing this magical moment for me. by @kelseythekraken
Another Stinger nomination, this time for @newhorizonsdoc, a film near and dear to my heart. I was supposed to fly to South Korea to shoot this film about my hubby @aussiebobsleigh teaching bobsleigh to athletes from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia BUT the pandemic had other plans. Heath was up for the challenge of shooting for me, with what he had available it him, his Samsung phone and a GoPro, all while coaching full time. Did I mention he is not a filmmaker…?!? Spoiler alert - he did a great job. Thank you to @storyhive @enriquepoemp @sandivva Community Stories Program for the great mentorship! I would not have finished had you not created an absolute pressure cooker of a deadline. #independentfilm #abfilm #keepalbertarolling #documentaryfilm by @kelseythekraken
So stoked that @scaleyshortfilm is nominated for TWO CSIF Stinger Awards - Best Costume & Best Make-Up. Tracy is the brilliant mind behind EVERYTHING mermaid in this film. And she was my inspiration for writing Scaley! If you ever need to turn into a full fledged mermaid - she is your girl. #independentfilm #mermaidlife #abfilm #keepalbertarolling by @kelseythekraken
Coming March 2023 - Baby Kraken! Heath and I are excited for this next chapter in our crazy journey. I’m slowing down and chilling out like it is my job these days - and eating more cheese than I ever have in my life 🧀. The animals are my snuggle buddies and we are counting down the days to meet the newest addition to our very wonderful family. by @kelseythekraken
