Did someone say Late Night Art?🎨 I’ll be spinning some tunes next Thursday, 5th of Nov in Second Nature 🎧 Doing a lil B2B with @kemetcoleman (who’s come all the way from USA) ahead of his album launch! It’s free in so would be great to see a few familiar faces. I’ll be on from 9pm. See you there 🫡 by @kemetcoleman

The lineup is here. Kemet Coleman live, both sides of Double Conscious. Special Delivery brings the sound, with DJ Skeme on the decks. Plus a film from the trip.

Double Conscious is me bringing my worlds together. Music and beer. House and hip-hop. Kansas City and the cities that have made room for me.

There’s family in those drums, even when we put them on separate playlists.

The title draws from W.E.B. Du Bois’s idea of double consciousness*. For me, it opened a question: what happens when I stop separating the parts of myself?

In a world getting harder to tell what’s real, I’m reaching for what made me love music in the first place. Something human. Something you feel before you can explain it.

There’s depth here, but no puzzle to solve. Come kick it. The rest will meet you along the way.

Double Conscious. November 6. 📸 @senseibrands

*In The Souls of Black Folk (1903), W.E.B. Du Bois described double consciousness as the experience of being Black in America and knowing yourself from within while also seeing yourself through the eyes of a society that devalues you. He sought a way to bring those two selves together without losing either. That idea helped inspire this album’s exploration of wholeness. by @kemetcoleman

Everybody’s got a title for you. Artist. Business owner. The brewery guy.

I answer to all of them. But music gives me room to say what doesn’t fit in an introduction.

Double Conscious is for the part of you that wants to dance and the part that’s still thinking about everything on the drive home. I know both pretty well.

My new album arrives November 6. Taking the music to Europe, then bringing it home to Kansas City on November 14 at Vine Street.

Two sides. One self. 🧬
