2020 was the year I got the tattoo I had dreamed up many moons ago.
It incorporates Samoan and Indian pattern and tells a story on my skin of my Nanna and Granddad coming together and their journey onwards.
Mum, Dad, my Sis and my babies are all represented.
There are strong feminine influences in the Samoan design relating to my Nanna - the holder of knowledge and protector of our Aiga and my sister and I, soft on the exterior but strong inside.
I found the perfect artist for me @tylatatau . Her studio in Mt Eden is in the same area my Nanna and Granddad lived when my Mama was a baby.
One day all those years ago my Nanna and Granddad arrived home with their baby to all their belongings on their front lawn and their locks changed. They were put out of their house because other residents in the building didn't like the color of their skin.
The first of many racist encounters they faced.
Not even 60 years ago but still very relevant today.

Forget the outside world for a moment. Imagine there is a space nobody else exists. A place where you don't have to perform, impress, explain or be anything for anyone.

This is your secret place.

Let's celebrate these women. Let's immerse ourselves in the visual experience, and enjoy.

To this team that has been a part of Creative Zone this year - I admire and honour you. Mostly for your courage to push new limits, and to keep showing up like you have, even when life has been full.

I love seeing the connection that has always been at the forefront of Summer Studios. The way you support and love on one another, and the way you allow yourselves to explore parts of you that perhaps haven't had the space to come out before.

And I love seeing YOU.

The unique individual, the woman behind the movement. It's always a privilege to witness.

Over the next 6 weeks, I'll be sharing a piece of our visual experience every Monday night. A collection of work we've poured ourselves into, and a little glimpse into what this team has been creating.

Let's continue on the journey in a renewed setting in round 4. A time to push, connect, and find joy in what we do. Let's allow more of it in our lives - like we all so deserve.

I want to celebrate these two.

Moving to Christchurch meant leaving their comfort zone, their friends, their bilingual education, kapa haka and their rugby teams. After playing as forwards with Arataki Rugby Club, they've found their stride as backs at Marist, both playing 2nd 5.
Today at prizegiving Dante was awarded 'Back of the year' and Gabe 'Most promising player'.
Dante puts his body on the line every Saturday, is a strong runner, knows how to break through lines and gain serious metres for his team.
Gabe was lucky enough to be coached by 2 gentlemen who lead their team through an undefeated season, putting some heavy scorelines on their opponents and always playing with discipline, structure and winning with humility.
Gabes finished up the season with 12 tries and the most assists. His coaches said they believe he will be Captain of the first 15 in time to come. I do too. What a way to wind up his Junior rugby club playing days 🥹

I believe in both of the boys and no matter which way their journey goes, Im proud of who they are, the way they treat people and the way they carry themselves.

MORE LIFE BOYS, ALL LOVE 🖤🤍💚 by @keshia_lloyd
